Description

Waking up to views out over the water has been one of the many pleasures of life at Lynmouth Crescent, according to the current owners. They chose their beautiful home because of its exceptional setting and have savoured each moment there since moving in. “Every day we simply step out from our front door and head out to walk beside the lake,” one of them explains. “It has been one of the great joys of living here.” Their master bedroom not only looks out over the water but also features two sets of French windows giving access onto a gorgeous balcony. “It is lovely to sit out there on a chair from time to time in the warmer months, enjoying the beautiful views and watching the wildlife,” she adds.

INSIDE-OUTSIDE LIVING

The spacious, five-bedroom house has been their home for some 18 years now. During that time they have enhanced and improved it – and given it a stylish, neutral interior design. “We completely landscaped the garden and built a pergola and deck at one end,” she recalls. “We also extended the kitchen and opened it up into the dining room to create one lovely space. We had the kitchen refitted and installed large bi-folding doors that can now be opened right up. In the summer months, it is now like having one incredible inside-outside space. I think this is now my favourite part of the house and is what I will miss the most when we leave.”

WHERE THE HEART IS

Certainly, the fabulous open-plan kitchen dining room has become the heart of the home. With chic, pearl-grey, shaker-style cabinets and attractive yet durable Dekton work surfaces, it not only looks stylish but is also highly practical. There is a central island, with a breakfast bar, as well as ample room for a dining table. “This is a great social space,” she agrees. “When our children and grandchildren are here we all congregate in the kitchen – there can be up to 30 of us here for Christmas! We have also hosted charity barbecues in the garden, with lots of people coming in and out from the kitchen.” She adds: “We have so many happy memories of family occasions and other events from our time here.”

A UNIQUE FEATURE

A handy utility room and cloakroom are also at ground-floor level. From the reception hall, an attractive staircase twists up to the first floor. “This was installed by the first owners and is quite a feature,” she says. “It is a beautiful, winding staircase made from oak and wrought ironwork.” Also downstairs is the spacious sitting room, which has an inglenook fireplace fitted with a gas, coal-effect fire. “We don’t often have this on as the house is always very warm in winter but we do enjoy its cosy glow at Christmas.” An additional reception room has the flexibility to be an office, snug or children’s playroom. “My husband uses it as a study but we also have a built-in bar and a large range of cupboards in there. It could have a variety of uses.”

SUMPTUOUS BEDROOMS

The first floor of the house encompasses five bedrooms and four bathrooms. The spectacular master bedroom, with its lake views, has an en suite bathroom, as well as access to the balcony. Two more of the bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and there is also a family bathroom. “The bedrooms are all a good size and the arrangement here has made it very easy for us to accommodate overnight guests comfortably,” she says. “This house has worked so well for us as a place for our family and friends to come and stay.”

SUPERB SURROUNDINGS

The property, which has a double garage and driveway, providing parking for up to eight vehicles, has given them exceptional access to the city centre, as well as to picturesque places to walk. “It only takes us 10 minutes to get into central Milton Keynes and it is also very quick to pick up the motorway or other main roads to different parts of the country,” she says. “There are lots of lovely places to visit for the day or to take the children to – the other lakes in Milton Keynes and Woburn Abbey and Safari Park, for example.” Now downsizing, the owners hope to stay in the area, with all its many benefits and attractions. “We are going to miss the lake and the house, however,” she admits. “But I can imagine another family will now move in and enjoy it as much as we have done.”

SETTING THE SCENE

To the front of the property on Lynmouth Crescent, there is a generous driveway and access to the integral double garage. This not only provides good parking space but could also be used by new owners as storage or workshop space if required. The rear of the house opens up beautifully to the mature, landscaped garden. The pergola and deck at the end are ideal for outdoor relaxation and entertaining.
