Description
Nestled in the heart of historic King’s Lynn and within sight of the tranquil waterfront, 2 Riverside Court is a rare blend of architectural charm and modern refinement-a one-bedroom residence that offers more than just a place to live, but a lifestyle to savour.
Originally believed to be part of a merchant’s house and later sympathetically converted in the 1980s, this home forms part of an exclusive, gated development that feels both private and beautifully connected to its heritage-rich surroundings.
The interior surprises with its generous proportions and rich character. The ground floor opens to a spacious bedroom, complete with ample storage and a contemporary shower room. Upstairs, the heart of the home reveals itself-a stunning Hanseatic pine-clad living and dining room, where deep-recessed windows and exposed timber beams evoke the building’s historic soul, while the open layout makes it perfect for entertaining or quiet evenings in.
The kitchen is positioned to take full advantage of views across the immaculately kept communal gardens-a peaceful spot to watch the seasons shift. Recent upgrades include a re-tiled splashback, updated appliances, exposed brickwork, and a refined staircase-each detail chosen to enhance comfort without compromising the home’s sense of place.
Outside, a private paved courtyard, set directly in front of the property enclosed with fencing. Residents also enjoy access to two beautifully landscaped communal gardens. A secure gated entrance and private allocated parking provide everyday ease-an exceptionally rare luxury in such a central setting.
The location is truly special: just a short walk from the station, with mainline services to Ely, Cambridge, and London, and steps from the historic South Quay, cobbled streets, charming cafés, and celebrated local pubs. For lovers of history and riverside walks, there may be no better vantage point from which to take in King’s Lynn’s famous sunsets.
KING’S LYNN
Perched on the banks of the River Ouse, King’s Lynn has been a centre of trade and industry since the Middle Ages, and its rich history is reflected in the many beautiful buildings which still line the historic quarter.
Originally named Bishop’s Lynn, during the reign of Henry VIII the town was surrendered to the crown and took the name King’s Lynn. During the 14th century, Lynn was England’s most important port, dominated by the Hanseatic League. Although the growth of London later eroded the port’s importance, ship-building and fishing became prominent industries, the latter of which is documented at True’s Yard Museum.
With more than 400 listed buildings, two warehouses – Hanse House and Marriott’s Warehouse – still stand in the centre of the town, along with King’s Lynn Minster and Custom House. These have appeared as stars of the screen in numerous period dramas and it’s not unusual to spot a camera crew and cast on location.
King Street, which runs from Tuesday Market Place to the Custom House was once known as ‘Stockfish Row’ for the number of fish merchants that lived there, With a listed building every 26ft, Sir John Betjeman described it as one of the finest walks in England. In 1845, there were at least ten pubs on this street alone, and although these have faded away a relatively new arrival is the WhataHoot distillery with its gin school and handmade spirits.
With Cambridge, Peterborough and Norwich all within an hour’s drive and a direct rail line into London King’s Cross arriving in the capital in just 1 hour 40 minutes, King’s Lynn continues to attract a growing number of professionals seeking an easy commuter route.
