Location:
Brize Norton is a former agricultural village halfway between the iconic Cotswold market town of Burford and the picturesque village of Bampton. Many period stone built properties remain and Brize Norton has a Norman church and thriving village hall, a popular community cafe´ housed in the sports pavilion, as well as two traditional village pubs, one of which is just a short walk from Rose cottage.
Adjacent Carterton has a range of shops and supermarkets plus a leisure centre, whilst the nearby town of Witney provides an excellent selection of high street stores, supermarkets, banks, a local market, independent boutiques and a cinema complex. Burford, known as the ‘gateway to the Cotswolds’ has a range of lovely shops, cafe´s and pubs, as well as the popular Burford Garden Centre and Cotswold Wildlife Park.
Other historic larger centres such as Oxford, Cheltenham, and Cirencester are within driving distance and provide more extensive amenities and facilities. Communications are good with access to the A40 connecting to the M40 to London, and the M5 to the west. Rail stations at Oxford Parkway and Charlbury provide a regular service to London Marylebone and Paddington taking from 55 and 70 minutes respectively.
There is a village primary school in Brize Norton (Ofsted: Good) and a highly regarded secondary school at Burford. The excellent choice of independent schools nearby includes Hatherop Castle, Cokethorpe and St Hugh’s, with many renowned schools in and around Oxford and Abingdon. Sporting and cultural opportunities include golf at Burford, Wychwood and Witney. Racing at Cheltenham, Newbury and Stratford-upon-Avon. Theatres at Chipping Norton, Oxford, Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon.
In the ownerswords:
“We’d already been living in Brize Norton village for many years and were planning a move when we noticed that a larger, detached cottage in the village had just gone on the market. As soon as we saw it, tucked away by the church and with its own driveway, we realised that Rose Cottage was the one for us. It still retained all its original features, character and 18th century charm, but importantly, hadn’t been spoilt by any unsympathetic refurbishment or modernisation. It was, however, currently being used for private car repairs and featured its very own breeze blockcar-spraying booth and above-ground swimming pool so was in need of a bit of love and affection.
Over the last 31years we’ve been gradually refurbishing and upgrading to make it the family home we always wanted. Its quiet location, large garden, private parking area and double garage are big bonuses for a period cottage; plus the large diningroom with garden access is a great entertaining space.
The quiet local countryside, nearby shops and proximity to Witney for all its amenities make Brize Norton the perfect location. We both enjoy cycling, running and walking; being so close to the surrounding countryside is perfect. There is also a swimming pool just a few minutes' cycle ride away in Carterton. The south-facing garden gives us long summer evenings and there’s plenty of space to sit outside and watch the sunset.”
