Stocking Pelham is a Hertfordshire village close to the larger village of Furneux Pelham, almost equidistant between the market town of Bishops Stortford and the large Essex village of Clavering,, where there is a primary school, village shop, cricket green and two public houses.

The Old Rectory is situated towards the western edge of the village and is well placed along a tree-lined gravel driveway.
The oldest part of the house dates from the 17th century and is Grade II Listed, considered to be of architectural and historical merit. It has been a Vicarage or Rectory since the 18th century when significant changes were made to the house.

The accommodation is well-balanced mainly arranged over two floors including an impressive entrance hall, three reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast/family room, utility and pantry. On the first floor there are four bedrooms, an en suite, dressing room and two bathrooms. On the second floor there is a further bedroom.

The formal gardens around the house are largely moated and immediately behind the house there is a swimming pool with a heat pump. On the edge of the boundaries there are mainly deciduous trees meadows and two orchards. The grounds in total extend to about 8 acres. We understand that there are no public footpaths across the grounds which are delightful and secluded.

In addition to the main property, there is a period outbuilding currently a one bedroom bungalow which is rented out, a number of storage buildings and a basic stable block.


A group of villages the Pelhams of which Stocking Pelham is one. The property is situated in the county of Hertfordshire approximately a 15 minute drive to the market town of Saffron Walden. The house is set almost equidistant between the M11 and the A10 and just to the North of the A120 which links Bishops Stortford to Puckeridge. This is an attractive part of the county with undulating countryside of fields, woodlands, small villages and Hamlets. There’s easy access to the A10 at Puckeridge to the M11 at Bishops Stortford and to various train stations at Harlow, Hertford and Bishops Stortford. There are some excellent primary schools on the doorstep both at Clavering and Ferneux Pelham and in Clavering there is a large village shop and post office. Clavering is about a 7 minute drive and Ferneux Pelham about 5 minutes.
