Turnberry, South Ayrshire is known worldwide as one of the iconic Open Championship Golf resorts, situated on the Firth of Clyde coastline, southwest Scotland. Historically it has been through 2 World Wars with its now disused aircraft runway serving the military whilst the hotel served for a period as a hospital. Post-war it was revitalised with golf course redesigns and a series of new owners evolving the resort into the Trump Turnberry Resort that we see today.
The popular racecourse in Ayr holds the Scottish Grand National and there are yacht marinas at Troon, Ardrossan and Largs. Alloway, on the southern fringes of Ayr, is the famous birthplace of Robert Burns. In addition to golf and sailing, the Ayrshire coastline is famous for its beautiful beaches and vistas.

Turnberry is approximately 52 miles south of Glasgow just off the A77 (which leads from Glasgow to Stranraer via Ayr). Overlooking the Firth of Clyde, Isle of Arran and Alisa Craig with Turnberry Golf Course and Hotel & Lighthouse at its heart. Notable historically is the nearby Culzean Castle. Prestwick & Glasgow Airports are approximately 26 & 60 miles journey respectively whilst Edinburgh Airport is approximately 94 miles.
There is a small shop with post office, catering for everyday needs and requirements at Maidens (2 miles), and a fuller range of shops and services are available at Girvan (5.5 miles) or Ayr (16 miles). Girvan has a library and a health centre.
There is a primary school in Maidens and Girvan Academy in Girvan. Both schools have a bus collection service. Independent schooling is available at Wellington in the town of Ayr.
The A77 provides access to the coastal town of Stranraer and the south while to the north it leads to Ayr and beyond to Glasgow.

Main line trains are at Girvan, Maybole and Ayr and there is an hourly coastal bus service.

Prestwick Airport is 26.7 miles with international and domestic carriers.

Culzean Castle (National Trust for Scotland), where visitors are welcome, is 5 miles to the north and just further along the coast is Alloway and Burns Cottage.

Travel Directions
From the town of Ayr proceed out on the A79 to meet the A77. Turn right and proceed along the A77 for 14 miles to reach Turnberry. On arrival in remain on the A77 before taking a left hand turn onto Drumbeg Road, take the second right off Drumbeg Road, Fairlight is the final property along the entrance drive.

From Glasgow City Centre proceed out on the M8 taking the M77 motorway junction. Proceed along the M77 to meet the A77. At the Monkton roundabout turn left, continuing on the A77. Proceed by-passing Ayr and then follow directions as above."
