Great Houghton lies about three miles to the south east of Northampton. The village has good facilities including two public houses, a church, a village hall and tennis club. It is also home to Great Houghton Preparatory School. There is a primary school in the
neighbouring village of Little Houghton and the
Northampton High School for Girls is at Hardingstone. Northampton provides good shopping and leisure facilities. The village is very well located for access to
the A45, which links the M1 (Junction 15) with the A14 at Thrapston. Mainline trains go from Northampton to London Euston in under an hour and there is a service
from Wellingborough that reaches London St. Pancras in about 55 minutes. Local sporting facilities include a good selection of golf courses at Harlestone, Brampton and Wellingborough, sailing and trout fishing at Pitsford and Hollowell reservoirs, and motor racing at Silverstone.
