Broadbottom is a lively village with a community centre, garden centre, café and pub. It is surrounded by open countryside with easy access to the Peak District. The M67 is a short drive away and regular trains run to Manchester Piccadilly from Broadbottom Station which has a large free car park, although the cottage is only a short walk from the station.
