Edward Elgar, one of England's greatest composers, together with his family, stayed in Alassio in this villa during the winter of 1903-1904, and it was here that he found the inspiration for one of his most famous works: the concert overture "In the South" (Alassio).

The seascape, ancient ruins and Mediterranean atmosphere of Alassio inspired Elgar to compose a work that reflected the light, warmth and beauty of the region. The result was "In the South" (Alassio), a concert overture that captures the essence of the Ligurian Riviera through a rich and colorful musical language.
