The Cortes neighborhood, also known as the Barrio de las Letras or Huertas, owes its name to the fact that it houses the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of the Spanish Parliament. Its more popular nickname comes from the "Huertas del Prado" (The Gardens of the Meadow), which existed in the 17th century on the current Paseo del Prado, which also gives its name to the neighborhood's main street: Calle de las Huertas.

It is a hub of art and literary culture. In the popular Barrio de las Letras neighborhood, we find Calle Huertas, lined with former residents such as Cervantes and Lope de Vega, whose house is now a museum. Nearby, the tree-lined and popular Paseo del Prado leads to the famous Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums and ends at the Reina Sofía, creating a pleasant stroll through art and memorabilia.
