Guide to Golden Share April 2022 – The City of Edinburgh Council.
The Golden Share Scheme
Golden Share is an affordable housing initiative designed to help individuals and families on low to average incomes get onto the property ladder. With Golden Share, you own 100% of the property, but its value is capped at 80% of the open market price on both the first purchase and any future resale. For example, you buy at 80% of today’s market value and must also sell at 80% of the market value when you move on. To qualify, buyers must meet the City of Edinburgh Council’s eligibility criteria and show evidence of affordable housing need, such as a local connection or not being able to afford the full market value.
