INTRODUCTION

10 The Esplanade is a gorgeous home that sits in a discreet position in the village and is ideal as coastal get away or income generating holiday let. With huge character and beautiful decor inside and a wonderful garden and terrace looking out to sea it really is a little bit of heaven on the coast.

Set across three floors, the property opens with a welcoming sitting room at the front, where a large sash window fills the space with natural light. To the rear, the well-planned kitchen is fitted with modern cabinetry and integrated appliances, with a useful walk-in pantry providing additional storage. From here there is access to a convenient cloakroom with WC and basin, as well as a door leading to the garden.

On the first floor a second sitting room takes full advantage of panoramic views across the bay, while a generous bedroom, currently arranged with a super-king bed, features a vanity basin and dedicated wardrobe space. The top floor is home to two further bedrooms, each with its own character and outlook. One is arranged as a spacious twin with warm coastal detailing, while the other captures the most dramatic views across the sea and coastline, making it a truly memorable room.

Outside, the property enjoys a terraced garden, a rare find in Robin Hood’s Bay. Landscaped to make the most of its elevated position, it offers outstanding sea views and a generous seating area, creating a unique coastal retreat.

This is a home of character and history, beautifully presented and thoughtfully updated, with versatile living spaces, three bedrooms and a remarkable garden with panoramic views of the sea. Perfectly situated in one of the most picturesque villages on the Heritage Coast, this is a truly special property.

ENVIRONS

Robin Hood's Bay has an abundance of cafes and fine eateries including the delightful The Galley on the Quarterdeck, Tea, Toast and Post (Travellers Food Choice 2024) to the haute cuisine and panoramic views of The Victoria Hotel, which hosted the stage set for Daniel Day-Lewis' 'Phantom Thread'. Oh, and not forgetting Robin Hood's Bay's ultimate seaside special, fish and chips. There's also a wet fish shop, should you prefer to cook your own, or a simply relax on the terrace at Beacholme, gazing out to sea with a fresh lobster salad and a glass of wine from the Bay's own exclusive vineyard. In a word, this hidden picture postcard hamlet, literally has it all.

There are a wonderful array of independent shops from Berties of Bay selling local ganseys, The Old Drapery, and the famous resident local artist John Henny. Treat yourself at Dollies Sweet Shop or at their ice cream van on the beach, or Browns Chocolates, explore the gifts at Jessica Hogarth, or perhaps discover the Yorkshire gins, beers, homeware, Vinyl, and bespoke upcycling service at The Higgledy Pig. One thing you won't find in Robin Hood's Bay is an amusement arcade!

The Bay hosts two convenience stores, a post office, and a doctors surgery. Only four miles away towards Whitby are a plethora of supermarkets including Aldi and Sainsbury's, and a petrol station too. The coastal town of Whitby lies just a 15-minute drive away where you will find more beautiful beach walks, coastal paths, and the magnificent Abbey.

For travelling and commuting, there is an amazing bus service to Scarborough and Middlesbrough every 30 minutes. Railway services also operate from Whitby and Scarborough with direct links to York and Leeds which then connect to main line services to London Kings Cross or North.

The National Trust's Old Coastguard Station offers a fantastic visitor centre with interesting history on fossils, sea life, and tales of smugglers, as does the local dinosaur shop. There is a Robin Hood's Bay Museum situated in the Old Coroner's Room and Mortuary displaying similar local history of shipwrecks and rescues, and a unique model of a smugglers house. For those desiring even more of the past, the notorious Ghost Walk takes you through the streets and alleyways whilst listening to the tales of the strange and supernatural. Woven into the heritage of the Bay is traditional folk music that has been passed down through the generations, often sung in The Wainwright Bar at The Bar Hotel and annual folk weekend in June. Additionally, there is an independent art group who encourage locals and visitors to join and develop their artistic talents.

Robin Hood's Bay has its own tennis courts and Bowling Club in addition to W.I and a Village Hall. There is an incredibly popular walk in a circular amble across the Bay's beach and over the cliff path, which is just over 2km long and takes around 2 hours. The walk begins down the slipway at low tide onto the beach, eventually reaching an inlet called Boggle Hole at the other end of the Bay. The caves here are a place where smugglers often landed their illegal contraband! The path continues to take you back to Robin Hood's Bay along the clifftop following The Cleveland Way Trail. The North Yorkshire Moors are also home to some breath-taking scenic trails, and if biodiversity and archaeology interests you, the Fylingdales Moor Conservation Project offers guided nature trails.

Ideal for those thrill seekers, the North Yorkshire Off Road Centre situated on the edge of the Bay, offers a 4X4 Land Rover driving experience with a range of defenders and discoveries, to test your skills.
