Description

An impressive Grade II listed former farmhouse providing the ideal family home on the edge of Devizes town bordering the glorious Wiltshire countryside.

Description

An exceptional Grade II listed country residence with cottages, extensive grounds, and commanding views over the Wiltshire Downs.

Set amidst the rolling chalk landscapes of Wiltshire, Roundway Farm House is a distinguished Grade II listed farmhouse, believed to date from the 16th and 18th centuries. Lovingly restored and thoughtfully extended by the current owners in 2009, this handsome period home offers a rare blend of architectural heritage, modern comfort, and rural tranquillity — all within easy reach of London.

The property is approached via a long private drive. The main entrance opens into a welcoming reception hall leading to an impressive stone cantilever staircase and a feature fireplace with inset wood-burning stove. The ground floor is ideally configured for both family living and entertaining. There is a series of elegant reception rooms including a generous drawing room with a large fireplace and inset wood-burning stove and a charming sitting room with carved stone open fireplace. Additionally a study with French doors opening to the garden and a formal dining room with a beautiful carved stone fireplace and views over the front gardens.

Spanning the rear of the house is a magnificent vaulted kitchen/breakfast room, featuring exposed oak beams, stone flooring, bespoke hand-painted cabinetry, central island with breakfast bar, and a four-oven AGA with electric hob. A shelved larder, utility room and boot room complete the ground floor. Two sets of French windows open onto a flagstone terrace and thence the garden.

Accessed by the impressive stone staircase, the first floor offers five well-proportioned bedrooms, including a vaulted room with exposed timbers and potential for an en suite. A family bathroom and separate shower room serves the remaining bedrooms, most of which benefit from fitted wardrobes and views out across the surrounding gardens and grounds as well as Roundway White Horse to the front elevation. A door and wooden staircase off the landing leads to the second floor. There are 3 large, light rooms suitable for additional bedrooms or which could be converted into a self-contained flat of bedroom, sitting room and bathroom.

Throughout the house, period features abound; from exposed beams and stone fireplaces to high ceilings and original joinery; all contributing to the warm and inviting atmosphere of this much-loved family home.

It has a weekly market and an extensive range of independent shops. There are over 500 listed buildings in the town and a nationally acclaimed Museum. It hosts an International Street Festival and many other festivals and recreational events. The town of Marlborough is within a short drive, as are the cities of Bath and Salisbury.
