The property is built on four floors, with the lowest a semi-basement accessible from an adjacent street. The main body of the home is on the ground, first and second floors, with one bedroom on each. Two of these are cosy doubles with direct sea views through north-facing windows. The master, on the first floor, is twice the size and in addition to the same window as the others has a balcony overlooking the street outside.

The ground-floor kitchen is brightly lit from a large street-facing window, and kitted out with a blue suite of oven, gas hobs, cupboards, double sink and fridge-freezer that is only ten years old. The small family bathroom on the first floor has a tub with a shower attachment and smart white tiling. On the top floor, the terrace measures 18m2 and gives you a great panorama over much of the village and the hills that rise around it on three sides. It is afforded shade by a fixed canopy and would make a lovely family space for relaxing afternoons or outdoor meals.


SICILY'S LARGEST UNSPOILT WILDERNESS
The Natural Park of the Nebrodi Mountains is the largest expanse of protected land in the whole of Sicily, and stretches from the beaches and marinas of the Tyrrhenian coast to the foothills of Mount Etna in the south. Along the way it unfolds as a thrilling landscape of mountains and lakes, forests and rivers which provide a home to innumerable species of flora and fauna.

Galati Mamertino, where Casa dei Nonni stands, is a little community of around two thousand residents at an altitude of 800m above sea level. It's one of the last stops you come to before the centre of the natural park, which is completely free from towns and villages, spreads out over a vast area of 80,000km2.

Since it was built in the 1970s, Casa dei Nonni has remained in the same family, and you will find that this is typical of much of the real estate in these traditional inner-Sicilian villages.
