Description
A BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED GRADE II LISTED GEORGIAN TOWNHOUSE, set over three floors and perfectly positioned in the heart of Dorchester. Full of period character with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two reception rooms, a fabulous kitchen/dining room and a pretty walled garden. Vendor suited.
This is one of those lovely homes where the character starts the moment you step through the front door.
Set over three floors, the house retains so many of the features you would hope to find in a Georgian home, with sash windows, original flagstone floors, exposed beams and feature fireplaces, all sitting comfortably alongside some really stylish modern additions.
The entrance hall has its original Georgian flagstone floor and also gives access to the cellar, providing useful additional storage.
At the front of the house is a cosy sitting room with sash window and bespoke shutters, wooden flooring and a beautiful fireplace now home to a log burner – just the sort of room you can imagine curling up in on a winter evening.
There is a second reception room, again with a feature fireplace and flagstone flooring, giving plenty of flexibility as a dining room, snug, study or family room.
To the rear, the kitchen/dining room is a real highlight. Bright and full of character, it has a vaulted ceiling with two skylights and glazed doors opening directly onto the garden. The bespoke kitchen has solid wood worktops, a Belfast sink, integrated dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob, with plenty of room for a large dining table.
A family bathroom completes the ground floor accommodation.
Upstairs, the first floor has two lovely double bedrooms, both retaining feature fireplaces, with the front bedroom enjoying sash windows to two aspects and the rear bedroom overlooking the garden.
The principal bedroom occupies the second floor and creates a fabulous private suite. Double-aspect sash windows bring in plenty of light, there is another feature fireplace and enough space to create a dressing or study area.
The adjoining bathroom is particularly special, with a freestanding claw-foot bath, separate walk-in shower, WC and basin – a wonderfully luxurious space at the top of the house.
Outside
The walled rear garden is another lovely feature of the property, mainly laid to lawn with established flower and shrub borders and a paved terrace for sitting outside. There is also gated access via a shared passageway.
Residents' permit parking is available within Zone D.
Situation
The location is hard to beat if you want to be right in the heart of Dorchester.
Shops, independent cafés, restaurants, the cinema and arts centre are all within easy reach, along with Brewery Square, Dorset County Hospital and Dorchester's mainline railway stations, including direct services to London Waterloo.
A really beautiful period home combining Georgian character with comfortable modern living – and all within walking distance of everything Dorchester has to offer.
*Our View*
We love how much character this house has. There are beautiful period details everywhere you look, but it doesn't feel like a home where you've had to compromise on modern living to get them.
The kitchen/dining room opening onto the walled garden is a particular favourite, while the principal suite tucked away on the top floor feels like a real retreat.
And then there is the location – step outside the front door and you are right in the heart of Dorchester, with almost everything you need within walking distance.
If you love period homes, this one is absolutely worth seeing.
