The maritime port of Whitehaven is located in West Cumbria, a short distance from the Lake District National Park, 38 miles south of Carlisle and 45 miles north of Barrow-in-Furness. Whitehaven port was once the third largest in the UK and enjoyed great prosperity in the 17th century due, in part, to coal exportation driven by the wealthy Lowther family. The town's success led to the creation of a Georgian planned town in the 18th century and it now has over 170 listed buildings. The local area has many beauty spots in addition to a stunning coastline, and the town is within easy reach of the sandstone cliffs of St Bees Head. The property lies on the A5094 in Corkickle which links to the A595 within the town. In turn, the A595 connects to the A66 to the north. Whitehaven has two railway stations, Whitehaven and Corkickle, which operate on the Cumbrian Coast Line between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness.
