The Old Town Flat is set out on the first floor of the house, is situated in the oldest part of the town, Tunn Street – from which the main town of Fakenham grew. The property has deeds going all the way back to 1680 and was once a residential home in the late Victorian and early Edwardian period. Tucked away down a cobbled street and adorned with moulded eaves, the Manor is a treasured piece of history and used to house three generations of the Peckover Family. The Peckovers were an influential family of Quaker bankers and philanthropists who played an important role in the development of various towns in Norfolk and who campaigned tirelessly for the abolition of slavery and for improvements in education. The Manor House was also used as a Nurses Home in the late 19th century, from which nurses were supplied to the Lying In Hospital at Beech House, the Gressenhall workhouse.

A fantastic slice of history just a 25-minute drive from The Old Town Flat, is the Sandringham Estate. One of the official royal residences of King Charles III, Sandringham House is embraced by an estate of 20,000 acres featuring landscaped gardens and lush parklands in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Beauty. The estate’s country park and visitor centre are open throughout the year and the house and gardens are open between April and October.

Fakenham is also within easy access to the larger town of King’s Lynn and the city of Norwich, each boasting their own exciting days out, shopping experiences and cultural trips! If you fancy going even further afield, the surrounding areas are all well serviced by bus routes and there are direct rail links to the historical city of Cambridge and the bustling capital of London from King’s Lynn and Norwich.
