The Peckovers were an influential family of Quaker bankers and philanthropists who played an important role in the development of various towns in Norfolk and who campaigned tirelessly for the abolition of slavery and for improvements in education. The Manor House was also used as a Nurses Home in the late 19th century, from which nurses were supplied to the Lying In Hospital at Beech House, the Gressenhall workhouse.
