The Building



Gattis Wharf in King's Cross was named after Carlo Gatti, the Swiss-Italian entrepreneur widely credited for introducing ice cream to the UK. Gatti ran the largest ice supply company in London and built a large ice warehouse capable of storing tonnes of ice in two large ice wells. He began importing ice from Norway around 1860, shipping it up the Thames to Battlebridge Basin before distributing it across London in Gatti's ice carts.



The Tour



Accessed via a gated courtyard with a water feature and a koi carp pond, the apartment's private entrance is approached via a green-painted steel staircase. A pair of matching glazed double doors open to the main living space.



The apartment has a bright and voluminous feel care of its high, pitched ceiling and several skylights that allow natural light to flood the space. There are walls of white-painted brickwork, and timber floorboards run underfoot.



The current owners have arranged a generous seating area and a dining space in the middle of the plan, and the apartment’s double doors can be opened wide to allow a summer breeze while enjoying a meal.



The kitchen sits to the right, with dark-coloured cabinetry and a matching work surface. There is an integrated oven, a four-ring induction hob and a ceramic sink. A mezzanine above the kitchen is currently used as a storage space.



The left side of the apartment lends itself as a sleeping area, and there is ample space for a double bed and freestanding furniture. Next door there is a shower room with grey and white mosaic tiles.



Outdoor Space



Gattis Wharf has private access to a section of the towpath that serves as a peaceful retreat in the centre of the city. There is also a beautifully planted communal courtyard garden at the front of the building.



The Area



The apartment is exceptionally placed to make the most of the nearby shops, bars and restaurants. Granary Square is a seven-minute walk away and is home to a magnificent public square with choreographed fountains and restaurants, including Caravan and Dishoom, plus a Waitrose. During the weekends, the vibrant Canopy Market takes place in the square, hosting independent designers and makers. Next door, Coal Drops Yard (designed by Heatherwick Studio) has further restaurants and shopping options, including APC and Tom Dixon.



The Regent’s Canal runs through Islington into Hackney where it connects to the River Lea. There are many excellent pubs and cafes along the towpath, as well as stops at the Victoria Miro Gallery and Broadway Market.
