Description
“Why are you selling your lovely cottage?” We have been asked this frequently. After over 20 years we feel it is now time for someone new to fall in love with this special home. No 7, as we fondly call it, was a perfect home for us as a young married couple before we needed a slightly larger property. After we moved out, it was highly successful on the rental market. Over the years we have spent many hours and loving care into restoring the cottage whilst respecting its original features and unique charm. While the property is ready to be lived in, there are plenty of opportunities for the new owners to make their own mark. The modest exterior of No. 7 belies the unique treasures inside such as a large fossil embedded in the kitchen wall and pretty picture frame around the stairwell window. The roof and windows have been professionally replaced, ensuring they will last for many years.
Downstairs, the original flagstones have been thoroughly scrubbed and oiled, making them not only beautiful but easy to look after. Installing a wood burner, not strictly necessary with the efficient gas central heating, makes for wonderfully cosy winter evenings.
Upstairs we carefully preserved the original beautiful elm floorboards, and painted with breathable paint, making a lovely restful space. The front bedroom, with original fireplace, always surprises viewers with its large size. The second bedroom has useful storage space, room for a single bed, and at the other end a home office. Working from home wasn’t something we had considered when we lived there, but it would be an ideal spot now, thanks to the sunny window and lovely views of the garden.
The garden is designed to be easy to look after with three outdoor sitting areas, from morning coffee to long summer evenings. Keen gardeners will appreciate the soil and sheltered conditions.
We loved living in South Petherton, which is a delightful and very popular market town; we especially enjoyed our Saturday morning shopping trips! Everything we needed was just a short walk away, and we always bumped into someone for a friendly chat. There are very good local schools, a thriving pub, and cafes, including the contemporary Holm, plus good selection of shops. If we needed to go further afield, its easy access to the A303 and other transport links. Like most cottages of this size in South Petherton, there is no dedicated parking, but we have always found space on the road or just around the corner.
No. 7 is more than just a house, it is a home waiting to be loved and would be perfect for a young couple starting out, a single person co-parenting, or anyone seeking a home full of charm and character. Shortly after we moved in, a neighbour told us No 7 was a house full of love – a sentiment we wholeheartedly agree with and hope the next owner finds as much joy and happiness there as we did when living there.

OUTSIDE
There is a side gate at the front of the property providing access to the south-facing rear garden. The partially covered side access is great for access to the garden and a useful outdoor storage space for bicycles etc. The alleyway leads round to a block paved courtyard at the rear of the house, where there is lighting and an outdoor tap. Steps lead up to a decked terrace and then beyond to a small area of lawn, with a planted border along one side. A patio area at the end of the garden catches the evening sun. These various zones create a fantastic blank canvas, and the addition of colourful planting and personal touches would create a beautiful space.
