Freehold

Description

This wonderful mid-century bungalow is positioned in a peaceful cul-de-sac in sought-after Sutton Coldfield, eight miles north-east of Birmingham. The house was impeccably renovated by its current owners, who have modernised the interiors with a sympathetic selection of colours and materials; other additions well as a new boiler, a central heating system and complete rewiring. Outside are generous front and rear gardens, the latter well-stocked with mature, leafy trees.

There are architectural plans and structural engineer drawings for a loft conversion that would provide an additional bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and an en suite.

The Tour

Positioned in a quiet, residential cul-de-sac, the house sits back from the street beyond a well-maintained lawn with planted borders. The single-storey façade is rendered in light tones and topped with a red-tiled gable roof. A large driveway with space for outdoor parking leads to both the main entrance and a side door connecting to the rear garden.

Entry is to an enclosed front porch, with tiled flooring and glazing overlooking the garden and the open-plan reception area. High ceilings and an abundance of natural light define the interiors, smartly complemented by a pastel colour palette and environmentally conscious materials. Expansive windows stretch across all elevations, allowing a seamless sense of connection with the surrounding greenery.

The door opens to the living room, where pale blue walls are paired with white skirting and door frames. Sympathetic cork flooring extends underfoot and continues across the reception area. A large archway gives way to the sitting and dining room at the rear, with crisp white walls and bi-folding glass doors that open to a beautifully planted private garden, perfect for dining outdoors. Ideally suited for entertaining, the space is warmed by a log burner with a black-tiled backdrop.

Tucked to the rear is a semi-open kitchen, recently refurbished with a range of shaker, base and wall-mounted units with brass fittings and quartz work surfaces. A mirrored splashback enhances the impression of openness and is complemented by a large window. Integrated appliances by Zanussi include an induction hob, a double oven and microwave, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. There is space for a washing machine.

From the living room, a hallway connects to two bedrooms, both finished with a neutral palette and fitted with full-height radiators. Discreetly removed to the rear, the principal bedroom is bathed in warm morning light pouring from large, east-facing windows that overlook the garden.

There is a third bedroom accessible from the reception area via a pocket door. It has a floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobe and a small window to the front, complemented by Velux overhead and carpet flooring.

The shared bathroom has been refurbished and fitted with a shower over bath with a white-tiled splashback, a wash hand basin with vanity storage and a vintage radiator. Tiles in a geometric pattern extend underfoot.

Outdoor Space

The reception area opens to a gravelled terrace, with space to entertain and relax in the warmer months. A sprawling garden unfolds beyond it, mainly laid to lawn and bordered by mature trees and densely planted boundaries, offering both a quiet retreat and an excellent level of privacy.

The Area

Sutton Coldfield is a popular town eight miles northeast of Birmingham, at the southern edge of the West Midlands Green Belt, a preserved area of open countryside and scenic natural landscapes.

Sutton Park is a leisurely 20-minute stroll from the house; a 2,400-acre National Nature Reserve, it is one of the largest urban parks in Europe and a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to a diverse fauna and flora. It’s not uncommon to encounter wild ponies grazing the land here. A little further afield, Barr Beacon Local Natural Reserve is one of the highest points in the county, offering far-reaching views toward several local landmarks.

There is a good selection of pubs and cafes within a short walk from the house. Local favourites include The Butlers Arms and The Four Oaks. The area is well served for essential amenities, with an M&S and Sainsbury’s just a short walk away in Mere Green’s town centre. There is a Waitrose in Lichfield, a 15-minute drive away. The house is ideally positioned for keen golf players, with several courses nearby, including Belfry, Aston Wood Golf Club, Moor Hall Golf Club and Druids Heath Golf Club.

The centre of Birmingham is easily accessible by public transport. Its intricate waterways wind throughout the city and along the Fazeley Canal, connecting a series of lively neighbourhoods, including the ever-popular Jewellery Quarter. Nestled amid the streets here are a variety of independent bars, restaurants, coffee shops, florists, chocolatiers and home furnishers.

The area has an excellent offering of state and private schools. For primary education, Moor Hall Primary School, Mere Green Primary School and Little Sutton Primary School are nearby. The Arthur Terry School and Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School are also close.

Butlers Lane railway station is a five-minute walk from the house, providing direct links to Birmingham New Street station and further south with trains reaching London Euston in 70 minutes. Lichfield can be reached in 15 minutes by car and Birmingham Airport in 27 minutes. There is convenient access to the M6, ensuring easy connection to the north and south of the country.
