Bickenhall is a small hamlet lying some 6 miles to the south of the county town of Taunton near to the larger villages of Hatch Beauchamp and Staple Fitzpaine. It is readily accessible from the A358 Taunton to Ilminster road which runs about 1 mile away and provides good links to the north of Taunton, including the M5 interchange as well as to Ilminster to the south where the A303 may be joined. Local facilities include primary schooling at Hatch Beauchamp and Thurlbear (Stoke St Mary) with a good local pub at Staple Fitzpaine. Taunton is easily accessed where a wide range of shopping, recreational and scholastic facilities can be found including several noted public schools. Both Exeter and Bristol host international airports.

The cottage is approached from the public road over a gravelled driveway with 5-bar gate leading to an extensive parking area. The gardens, extending to just over 0.3 acre are level, mainly laid to lawn with established shrubs and hedges, bounded on two sides by a stream.
