Description
The Tour
A former shoe factory, the building sits on a quiet residential street that leads directly to London Fields. Built in 1924, it was converted to live/work spaces by 410 Architects. This apartment lies on the first floor, where a wide private front door opens to a hallway.
Limed oak veneer floorboards run underfoot throughout the apartment, while walls are finished with Bauwerk limewash paint. A bank of tall, fitted cupboards along one side provides excellent storage for coats, shoes, and other large items.
The hallway flows seamlessly into an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. Two huge Crittall-style pivot windows stretch across one side of the room, drawing in an abundance of natural light. Exposed concrete sills are useful for holding books, flowers or potted plants.
On the other side of the room is the kitchen, with a large, concrete-topped kitchen island, integrated oven and four-ring induction hob, and a stainless-steel sink. Behind, there is an integrated fridge/freezer and recessed shelves.
There is more Crittall-style glazing in the primary bedroom, with a large, paned window and a row of several casements set into a wall of exposed brick. At the end of the room is an en suite shower room with white metro tiles, more brickwork, and fittings from Burlington.
The second double bedroom has recessed shelves and a large panel of glazing to the kitchen, alternatively it would make an excellent office. Next door is a bathroom, well-appointed with Burlington fittings and a shower over the bathtub.
Outdoor Space
To the rear of the building is a resident’s carpark, accessed via Well Street.
The Area
Tudor Road is a no-through road just off Mare Street, which connects to the Regent's Canal path and is a short walk from the open green spaces of London Fields and Victoria Park.
There are many well-regarded restaurants locally, notably Elliot's on Mare Street, Café Cecilia and Bistrotheque; Pophams Bakery is also close, and Californian-style bakery Violet Cakes is on nearby Wilton Way. E5 Bakehouse, on the edge of London Fields, is excellent for freshly baked artisan bread, while Mare Street Market, less than a minute’s walk from the apartment, is a thriving community hub with a restaurant, wine bar, deli, and a selection of boutique shops.
London Fields is home to an ever-popular heated Lido. Adjacent Broadway Market has a weekly market, several pubs, restaurants, and shops. Victoria Park Village is home to the Ginger Pig butcher and more places to eat and shop.
London Fields station runs direct trains to Liverpool Street. Bethnal Green Underground station, easily accessible by bus, has excellent links to central London via the Central line.
