Description

Attractive farmhouse with views of Hadrian’s Wall, historic grounds, useful outbuildings, and development potential. Well-connected by road and rail.

Description

Denton Hall is to be found just outside the small village of Low Row, discreetly located amidst captivating and historic countryside on the borders of Northumberland and Cumbria, close to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall.

Description
The former tower house, at the core of Denton Hall, is thought to date from the 14th century and the hall from the early 19th century. In recent years, both have been restored to create a substantial and well-proportioned and comfortable Grade I listed family house. Much has been done to ensure the preservation of its original features, including the original unaltered tower. In places, the two-meter-thick walls are left exposed, and the stone newel/spiral staircase has been secured, and now features in one of the bedrooms and on the attic floor, linking the tower rooms.

The accommodation is spread over two main floors, along with a spacious and fully accessible attic floor, and includes two main reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast room, large utility room (in the tower) five ensuite bedrooms and a large attic space that could be put to several different uses. The house adjoins a substantial Grade II listed barn (the original farmhouse) and a range of attractive, traditional, stone built, one and two-storey outbuildings and barns which form a full courtyard on the north side of the house. The buildings are in reasonable order and provide extensive stabling and storage.

There is not a big area of garden ground, but there is considerable potential and area to create a good-sized garden to support a house of this nature. Immediately surrounding the homestead is an area of parkland and permanent grazing which includes significant Scheduled Ancient Monuments including earthworks, remnants of an ancient moat and medieval fishponds and which, most importantly, provide a protective cordon around the house. The road/track at the end of the private drive is “adopted”.
