The bustling town of Vire is about a 15min drive away. There's a popular weekly market that sells local produce, including of course a wide selection of cheeses, cider and calvados. There are lots of independent shops, a couple of large supermarkets and plenty of good restaurants and cafes. 

The mainline train station means this area is very well connected with direct services not only with Paris (2hr 40mins), but also to Granville on the coast which means you can head off for a day trip to the beach and enjoy a leisurely seafood lunch without having to jump in the car.

The ferry port at Caen is 1 hour away and there's also easy access to the other Normandy ferry ports at Cherbourg, St Malo and Le Havre.  The Tunnel at Calais is 4hrs away.
