Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Living in York & Elder in Brighton is an absolute pleasure. The area has a fantastic mix of independent shops, stylish restaurants, and cosy bars, all within easy walking distance. There are plenty of lovely open spaces nearby, perfect for relaxing or meeting friends, and the community has a warm, welcoming feel. Transport links are excellent, with regular buses and trains making travel around Brighton and beyond simple and reliable. Parking is available as an additional option to rent if needed. The building’s bin chute system is brilliant – it’s always clean and convenient, so you never have to worry about bin collections. Inside the apartment, the soundproofing is excellent; once the windows are closed, it’s almost completely silent, making it a calm and comfortable place to live.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

The building management team is fantastic. they’re always easy to contact, quick to respond, and happy to chat in person whenever needed.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

One thing that pleasantly surprised me after moving in was how low the bills are. I hadn’t realised just how energy-efficient the building is, it’s so well insulated and modern that it really helps keep costs down. It’s definitely a nice bonus of living here!

    Manager's response

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

It’s near the train station and many bus stops so very convenient and as well. And has a big Sainsbury near by.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

I didn’t have any issues so I don’t know how they would respond but they would probably respond perfectly

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

That the facilities close at a certain time like the roof top terrace

    Manager's response

Hi Jana, WOW! Thank you for your fabulous 5-star review. It's great to hear that you find the property to be nice and clean, and a lovely place to live - and of course THAT sky terrace - spectacular! Thank you for choosing Yor & Elder as your "Home". Kind regards, Serena

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The location of York and Elder is great! You’re just by a supermarket, London road highstreet and so close to the North Laine. The train station is only a 5/10 minute walk away! On the side of the building I live on, your near a traffic light, so you do get some road traffic noise with windows open. But it’s very quiet with them closed! You don’t hear anything

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Any issues I’ve faced with the apartment have been fixed 24/48hrs after I have raised a ticket for them. Maintenance are always on it! Cannot fault them at all! And have been patient with us when moving our dogs around.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Some of the rooms you need to pay to use, like the dining room.

    Manager's response

Hi Ty, WOW! What a fabulous 5-star review; "Thank you". It's great to hear the fantastic feedback about living at York & Elder, and how well looked after you are. "Thank you" for choosing York & Elder as your "Home". Kind regards, Serena

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

It’s great area as it makes many stores and markets extremely accessible. The views are nice and your a very shot walking distance for the train station. Sometimes it may be a little noisy with the windows open, but nothing extreme .

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Promptly and eager to help. Never have I had an issue they can’t guide or help me with directly.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Not much, nothing I can think of right now. Sound doesn’t bother me as it’s not extreme but you may want to consider it?

    Manager's response

Hi Sufyan, WOW! Thank you for your amazing 5-star review; it's so lovely to hear about your experience at York & Elder - especially about our communal areas - they are very special aren't they..... oh and that sky terrace ;-) "Thank you" for choosing York & Elder as your "Home". Kind regards, Serena

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

We live between London Road and New England Street. Plenty of pubs, coffee shops, delis, second hand shops, cinema, gyms, churches, supermarket, ice cream places, bakeries, busses and train station. If we need anything else we are just 10 minute walks to the big shopping center and town.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

Yes the building management always respond to our request. Sometimes it may take a bit of time, especially if something is not particularly urgent, but eventually things get sorted fairly quickly and with a smile!

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

One thing I wish I’d known before moving into York & Elder is that the building is classified as commercial, which means the service charges for heating and hot water are considerably higher than what you'd typically find in a residential tenancy. It’s not something that’s immediately obvious, but it does make a noticeable difference—especially in winter. Another surprise was the monthly pet fee: £50 per pet. I understand the intention might be to cover potential damage, but tenants already pay a security deposit and are liable for any repairs. So it’s hard to see the rationale behind an ongoing charge—especially when some pet-free residents regularly pet-sit for others in their own apartments without any fee. I had hoped to adopt two cats, but the cost made it feel out of reach. It’s a shame, really. In a building that otherwise feels so welcoming and community-driven, this policy feels a little out of step… dare I say, a touch pet-ty.

    Manager's response

Hi Bibiana, Simply "WOW". This review means so much to the whole management team at York & Elder; and what a joy to read. It's simply wonderful to read about how you are embracing the whole community concept that York & Elder offers. From enjoying the relaxation and spectacular views from the sky terraces to the use of the allotments available to our community. Thank you for such kind feedback about the management team; and most importantly we "Thank you" for making a difference to the community and for choosing York & Elder as your "home". Kind regards, Serena
