READ OUR LIFESTYLE INTERVIEW WITH THE OWNERS...
How long have you owned the property? For about 10 years
What are the neighbours like? Sheen Cottage has just been bought by an Italian/Taiwanese couple with two children.
What attracted you to this specific house and location? I knew the area from my research at the National Archives in Kew. I like the closeness to the River, Kew Gardens and Richmond Park, but it is still on both underground and overground lines.
what would you like to tell parents about the benefits of raising children here? There are some excellent schools in the area, including Kings House on our road! The German School is nearby. Some local children attend St. Paul's.
What made you choose this property over the other the others that were available? I liked that it had recently been renovated; the sky-lit kitchen is a particularly nice space. There is garden in both front and back, not too large but a nice place to sit out in summer to catch the sun. There is off-road parking.
How convenient is it for commuting from here? It is a 13 minutes-walk to Richmond Station, which is on the District Line and two over-ground lines (SW into Waterloo and Mildmay to Stratford). It is on the edge of London, so is good for getting out quickly onto the M4 (Heathrow and the West), M3 (to the South coast) and M25.
What can you tell us about the history of the property and how it has been adapted by previous owners? It is a sturdily built Victorian-style house that at one time was divided into flats, before being put back to its former glory.
Who do you think would be the ideal next owner? A family, or a young couple wanting children.
What changes have you made to the house since you've owned it? Only minor ones, we love the layout and flow, nothing was needed.
What's your favourite room and why? I love my study when afternoon sunlight streams in to light up my latest reading.
What changes are you most proud of and why? The decoration which employs an interesting and eclectic assortment of antique and modern artwork and furniture. (NB as we are down-sizing, and will not have space, we are open to discuss passing some on some on to the buyer).
Memorable/remarkable event? The house was at its most full this summer, before my eldest son's wedding, when his bride's family were over from New Zealand. The music room is well-used and full of trophies won by my youngest for her piano performances. I have written my last two books from the study desk.
What do you love about the house the most now? It is a comfortable place to live, within easy reach of lots of nice shops, restaurants and green spaces.
What will you miss most? The space, I think, and room for my collection.
What do you love about the local community? Safe, friendly and international.
why have you decided to move on? All four children have now left home, so my wife and I will move into somewhere smaller.
