Description
The house had fallen into disrepair before being purchased by a charity, which restored the structure using traditional materials. In 1995, the clients' parents acquired the property from the charity. At that time, it was little more than a shell, with bare floors and no staircase. They undertook the internal works, installing the kitchen and bathrooms, and completing the decoration. The garden was also a blank canvas, which they designed and landscaped, while adding an architect-designed garage and garden room. Careful attention was given to using traditional, locally sourced materials wherever possible, with the aim of sensitively modernising while preserving the original charm and integrity of this magnificent Grade II* listed home.
The original farmhouse was divided into two dwellings, the front one a showpiece of Tudor Style architecture now provides a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial family home on one of Godmanchester's most admired streets - a location so steeped in character that it forms part of the town's walking tour.
To the side, a gated driveway leads to a generous parking area and the beautifully manicured private gardens. At the heart of these landscaped grounds stands a striking 24ft architect-designed Garden Room, with vaulted ceilings and dramatic full-height gable glazing, perfectly positioned to enjoy the tranquillity of this peaceful haven.
In addition, a 37ft architect-designed Garage was commissioned, offering scope for conversion into a two-storey building (subject to planning permission), further enhancing the already generous accommodation.
The property is filled with natural light through its many large windows. On the ground floor, two impressive reception rooms showcase the home's heritage: one featuring an original Inglenook fireplace and rare hand-painted friezes, the other - currently used as a dining room - displaying exposed beams and an open fireplace. A fitted kitchen and downstairs cloakroom complete the ground floor.
Upstairs, two of the three double bedrooms are distinguished by oriel bay windows with leaded light glazing, a hallmark of the Tudor architecture. The principal bedroom also benefits from a dressing room and access to a sizeable attic, ideal for storage. A separate bathroom and shower room serve this floor. The top floor offers a fourth bedroom and access to a spacious loft room.
This is truly a once-in-a-generation opportunity and must be viewed to appreciate. For further information, please contact our Huntingdon Office.
