Description

Beautifully presented Victorian cottage, perfectly positioned just south of the village hub - close enough to enjoy all the amenities, yet tucked away from the holiday bustle.

Bought by the current owners over seven years ago, Lugger Cottage has undergone a complete transformation. What was once a tired property has become a beautifully curated home, full of charm and thoughtful design.

The central hallway leads to all the ground floor rooms. Straight ahead is the impressive Neptune kitchen - faultless in finish and wonderfully practical in layout, combining timeless style with everyday function. To the right sits a sleek, well-fitted bathroom, and to the left, the inviting sitting room. With its log burner, shuttered windows and warm tones, this space perfectly captures the essence of a cosy country cottage - the ideal place to unwind after a day exploring the coast.

The traditional Norfolk winder staircase leads to two double bedrooms on the first floor, the principal of which surprises with its notably high ceiling - a rare find in a cottage of this era.

Outside, a private rear terrace offers the perfect spot for an evening sundowner, while a further garden area beyond Gents Yard provides space for entertaining friends on summer evenings.

Lugger Cottage is a true labour of love. Every detail reflects the care and respect given to its restoration, creating a home that balances period charm with refined, modern comfort. Now ready for its next chapter, it awaits new custodians to enjoy it as much as its current owners have.

BURNHAM MARKET
Treasured memories of family holidays, a day at the world famous horse trials or a well-earned afternoon spent browsing its pretty boutiques – there are plenty of ways to experience Burnham Market, the jewel in north Norfolk's glittering crown.

Located close to the mouth of the River Burn, believed to be the source of its name, the village has long been associated with naval hero Admiral Horatio Nelson, who lived at nearby Burnham Thorpe.

A refined elegance permeates every aspect of village life, from the traditional homewares found at Uttings, the locals 'go-to' for household essentials, to sampling tasty treats at the Tuscan Farm Shop, Humble Pie Deli or Gurneys Fish Shop – this is a place to savour the finer things. Eating out is also a joy with award winning Socius serving a British-inspired tapas menu on the edge of Foundry Place, and NoTwenty9's bar, restaurant and courtyard provides a relaxed spot to wine and dine on warm summer's nights.

Fashion counts on the Champagne coast and for chic style head to Anna's boutique, make it fancy at The Hat Shop, go country at Gun Hill Clothing Company or casual at Joules or Jack Wills. For a little culture, peruse Burnham Market's art galleries – the Fairfax Gallery has been exhibiting for more than 20 years and Pococks the Artmonger has an eclectic display. For a spot of self-care, wellbeing boutique Aura 37 stocks a range of sustainable brands. Or if you have little ones in tow, don't miss a trip to Mable's – unmissable with its pretty pink frontage – where you can encourage their artistic talent with a pot painting session or treat them to a bag of traditional sweets.

It goes without saying that Burnham Market and its smaller siblings, Burnham Deepdale, Burnham Norton, Burnham Overy Staithe and Burnham Thorpe, are home to some of the finest houses on the coast. Whether your dream is a Georgian classic, a traditional cottage or a sleek, contemporary house, this is an incredible place to discover your forever home.

About Sowerbys, Burnham Market

Market Place, Burnham Market, PE31 8HD
Industry affiliations:

Our home in Burnham Market

Nestled in the heart of Norfolk's much-loved Georgian village, Burnham Market is where our story began.

Where it all began

More than 30 years ago, Max Sowerby founded Sowerbys right here. Back then it was just him, his trusty four-legged companion and an old computer.

Meet the team

Today, Karen Lewis-Mitchell manages our Burnham branch - a team with more than 70 years of combined industry experience.

Our place on the green

You'll find us among a wealth of local businesses surrounding the quintessential village green, in a picture-perfect Georgian double-fronted store.

A building with history

Formerly known as White Cottage, the building has served its community in many ways. In the mid-19th century it was a grocer and tallow chandler. The Roy family traded here from the early 1900s until 1971, selling everything from groceries to shoes and haberdashery. For almost 30 years it was home to the local newsagents, until 2001 when Max Sowerby moved the team in.
