Description
The Moat House appears in historic records dating back as far as the surveys of 1572 and remained in the ownership of the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's, London, when patronage transferred to the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury in 1945. Shortly after, the property was sold and divided into separate dwellings and, in 2002, was awarded an Historic Building of Kent status. More recently, one of the neigbouring properties featured in an episode of the popular TV property programme, Escape to the Country.
This part of The Moat House was added in 1905 and is a unique character home which truly offers the best of both worlds for the dicerning purchaser requiring all the facilities of village life on hand yet with the feeling of living in a piece of Kent's rich history. It requires internal viewing to appreciate its original features including wide panelled doors with period door furniture, high ceilings, cornicing, deep skirtings and a grand Bethersden Marble feature fireplace in the sitting room.
The accommodation comprises a 19'6" long entrance hall, cloakroom/utility, sitting room, wonderful kitchen/ breakfast room with island and a superb heated orangery that can be used all year round as a diner/reception. To the first floor is a large principal bedroom, a second bedroom with en-suite shower and a colourful main bathroom with p-shaped bath.
Outside, the property enjoys allocated parking for two vehicles leading to a single garage. The private rear garden is a wonderful place to escape with a manicured bordered grass lawn, vegetable plots, garden sheds, stream, an original hexagon shaped summer house for al fresco dining and an upper flagstone area to look across and admire the variety of plantings, trees and the varied character and shape of the whole building.

Charing sits between the foot of the North Downs with the Pilgrim's Way and the Green Sand Ridge, a rural area rich in farming, some 5.5 miles west of the larger market town of Ashford and 13 miles east of Maidstone. The village enjoys an interesting mix of village shops, micro pub, churches, primary school, doctor's surgery and pharmacy.
