Description

A Remarkable Property of Circa 10 Acres with Spectacular Views, in a Notable Setting. With a Former Quarry Transformed into a Large Level Sheltered Paddock and a Successful Luxury Small Glamping Site. Recently Built with the Beautiful Stone from the Quarry, a Three Storey Family House that has Commanding Views as far as The Mendips

When we first spoke to one of the current owners of Grove Farm Quarry, also the person that dreamt up Hadspen Glamping, even for a seasoned Estate Agent of over 30 years selling some fine properties from London to the West Country, it was an interesting call… The history and how they had developed this wonderful pocket of Somerset from a working quarry, into a family home with large paddock along with acquiring parcels of neighbouring land which took the grounds up to circa 10 acres, including a holiday destination of note and all across the road from the renowned ‘The Newt’.

It was with a degree of professional excitement that I drove through the entrance and down the drive, sweeping around the house and past the transformed quarry. What lay ahead encouraged me to pass by the parking area and into the farm yard to look down the valley and onwards toward The Mendips, picked out by the sun’s rays in the far distance. Stepping out of the car it was impossible not to stand motionless and take it all in.

What followed was a thoroughly enjoyable tour of all the parts that are indeed interesting and could easily be imagined as a setting for something on television. Views that will not be taken for granted. During three visits the views changed from leafy trees and lush valleys, then shrouded in mist, followed by autumnal colours.

After decades of working the quarry, getting permission to build a family home with the striking stone they excavated themselves, developing the award winning Glamping site that has permission to grow and developing the quarry into a large sheltered paddock, the time has come for the current owners to have a change and let someone else decide what to do with all there is. The house and grounds have huge scope and potential for countless uses and those views will enhance anything anyone chooses to do.

LOCATION

Hadspen is a small rural hamlet with a parish that the owners tell us always has something to get involved with if you wish, be it at the village hall with their annual summer parties, or down at the church with harvest festivals.

Nearby Castle Cary is a picturesque, historic market town, known for its charming golden-stone buildings, independent shops, and a thriving community. It was recently voted the "#1 Best Place to Live" in the Muddy Stilettos National Awards 2024.

Castle Cary railway station is on the main London Paddington to Penzance line, offering direct services to London, Exeter, and Bristol. The station is also known as the primary access point for the Glastonbury Festival. The town is easily accessible via major roads like the A303 and A37.

Bruton, a neighbouring market town, has drawn a lot of attention from further afield over recent years and become famous for its well-known inhabitants drawn to the town by the vibrant arts scene, excellent food, landmark historical features such as the dovecote, and a collegiate feel due to its schools.
