Description
Medieval castle arranged on three levels with large gardens 13.000.000
Where Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany meet in a mosaic of hills and woods stands a castle that seems untouched by time. In Torre Alfina, one of the most charming villages in Italy, this 7th-century fortress dominates the landscape with its five floors of history and magnificence, enclosed within over 5,000 sqm of pure architectural wonder.
After these necessary historical notes, we now move on to the true description, beginning with the access "ramp," a privately owned road-certainly burdened by rights of way in favor of the residents of the houses adjacent to the castle-paved, sloping, and suitable for vehicles. Its end is marked by an iron gate, where the road joins the public Via Monaldeschi della Cervara, which continues up to the castle entrance.
Today it displays all the features of a "Castle," with perimeter walls in stone and travertine, decorative cornices, and everything typically associated with such a definition. It is crowned by five towers: one circular watchtower and four defensive towers with quadrangular layouts. The oldest one, offset from the main building and located near the entrance courtyard, is known as the "Torre del Cassero." The battlements are of the Guelph type with corbels.
Beyond the entrance gate, following the path to the left and crossing a small portico, one can reach-by descending a staircase ramp-the first basement level, which houses the cellars.
The ground floor of the castle consists of an impressive gallery, a kitchen and related service areas, reception rooms, restrooms, hallways, storage rooms, and various closets.
On the façade facing the village below, the ground floor features mullioned windows topped by small arches. The overall layout of the building-"open" toward an Italian-style garden and "closed" by its parapet-confirms the complex's character as a palace/villa rather than a defensive stronghold.
Two main wings are connected by a true gallery featuring large windows with full-centered arch openings. These side structures have windows framed in volcanic stone on exterior walls with exposed brick. The ground and first floors are linked by a wide staircase reminiscent, in both structure and craftsmanship, of classic European stairways of the seventeenth century.
The first floor (generally referred to as the "noble" floor) is composed of the gallery, bedrooms with wooden floors and marble fireplaces, a library with a finely designed multicolored wooden floor, additional reception rooms, bathrooms, closets, dressing rooms, a terrace above the small ground-floor portico, and the various stairwells. Completing the floor is the entire right-hand wing which, as mentioned earlier, is currently "unfinished."
The interiors of both floors, equipped with plumbing and electrical systems, are in excellent condition.
The second floor (attic level) consists almost entirely of attic rooms, used in part as storage spaces, granaries, and curing rooms. The central hallway, located above the gallery, once again connects the central section to the two outer wings of the floor. Almost "mirroring" the layout below, this level also includes a residential area fully equipped with its own systems.
The third floor consists of the rooms contained within the central, northern, eastern, and southern towers, each equipped with a staircase with straight or spiral ramps.
The fourth floor includes both the room located in the central tower-with a spiral staircase providing access to the upper level-and the terrace roofs of the northern and southern towers, both reachable from the aforementioned stairwells.
Finally, the roof level corresponds to the terrace covering the central tower.
Also suitable for hospitality use.
