HISTORY
The five first floor windows of Cametringane House peer out atop of the Beara Coast Hotel taking in the magnificent views as they have done for centuries. This Georgian period home, which likely dates to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, is steeped in the ancient history of County Cork. It was once the seat of the influential O'Sullivan family, descendants of the legendary O'Sullivan Bere.
In 1833, Cametringane House was chosen to host a momentous occasion: the wedding of Maria O'Sullivan and Richard O'Donovan of Fort Lodge in Durrus. The significance of this union was noted by The Cork Constitution newspaper, which recorded that the marriage linked "the ancient, honourable and distinguished house of O'Donovan Carbery and O'Sullivan Bere," noting that "the mailed hand is now bound to protect and succour the gentle robin."
In circa 1970 the property began its life as a celebrated hospitality establishment, first opening its doors as the Cametringane House Hotel, a legacy that continues today as The Beara Coast Hotel.
