Description

Cosy and rich in character but beautifully and sympathetically designed for modern living, Old Cider House is a stone-built, comfortable family home offering plenty of space. Old wooden beams and lintels and leaded light windows add to the charm of this cottage and hint at its centuries-old history. The ground floor is tiled throughout with beautiful and hard-wearing Mandarin stone.

A spacious lounge with a stone fireplace fitted with a woodburner is situated immediately beyond the front porch and enjoys views across the beautiful garden.

This space flows seamlessly into the dining hall, which in turn leads to the kitchen and breakfast room, the heart of the home with its bespoke farmhouse-style cabinets, marble worktops, Aga and Belfast sink.

French doors lead from the breakfast room to a decked area outside, a perfect space for entertaining with breathtakingly beautiful views across the rolling Monmouthshire countryside. A cloakroom and useful utility room/boot room can be found closeby and this is served by a door leading to the garden.

Stairs in the dining room lead to four stylish bedrooms, all of which with beautiful views over the countryside. Three are double-sized and two have built-in storage. The principal bedroom has an en suite and walk-in wardrobe. There's a tranquil and luxurious family bathroom with a bath and shower too.

Old Cider House is in good order, decorated in a simple yet stylish way and ready to move into.

Location and situation - Kingcoed is a peaceful rural hamlet situated on a ridge that enables its residents to enjoy wonderful views of the Monmouthshire countryside. It's located approximately 2.5 miles from the village of Raglan, famous for its castle and served by a selection of shops and services, including a garden centre, GP surgery, pharmacy, post office and pubs. The historic and flower-rich town of Usk is approximately 5.5 miles away and has an enticing array of shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. Both Raglan and Usk have their own schools.

The larger towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth are 12 and 11 miles away respectively. Both market towns have an extensive collection of high street and boutique shops and branches of Waitrose. Monmouth is also the location for the independent Haberdashers' Monmouth School.

The city of Newport is 13 miles away.

Kingcoed can easily access the A449 and A40.

Sellers Insight - From the moment we first discovered The Old Cider House, we were completely captivated by its setting. Tucked well away from the main road, it felt like a private retreat, surrounded by rolling Monmouthshire countryside and uninterrupted views that instantly brought a sense of calm. The peace, privacy and connection to nature were unlike anywhere else we had seen.

Since owning the house, we have carefully enhanced it while respecting its character. The ground floor has been transformed with beautiful Mandarin Stone flooring, and the property now benefits from new windows and doors throughout. We refurbished the handmade wooden kitchen cupboards originally installed by the previous owners, added new bathrooms and WCs, completed a full rewire, installed a new boiler and central heating system, and redecorated every room. The result is a home that feels both timeless and thoroughly comfortable.

What we will miss most is the tranquillity. The views change with the seasons, the private wood is alive with wildlife, and mornings are often accompanied by songbirds, owls and birds of prey. Our favourite daily ritual has been breakfast at the kitchen table as the sun rises, flooding the room with light.

The garden is a joy, especially in summer, with mature trees and a wonderfully sunny aspect. An ancient pear tree stands alongside apple, pear, damson, cherry and fig trees, all producing fruit every year. It has been the perfect space for summer gatherings, while the house itself has hosted many memorable Christmases with family and friends.

Despite its seclusion, the house is well connected. Raglan and Usk are both a short drive away for shops, schools, pubs and restaurants, with excellent walking straight from the doorstep. Abergavenny, the M4 and the M50 are all within easy reach, making this a truly special rural home that does not compromise on convenience.

Outside - Old Cider House is surrounded by beautiful, mature gardens, lawns and an orchard, with two stone presses acting as a reminder to its original purpose. A resplendent wisteria CHECK hugs the outside of the property. There are decked seating areas for entertaining. Superb open views of the Monmouthshire countryside can be enjoyed all around and the grounds are highly private.

This is a property that lends itself perfectly to keeping horses or ponies, with three paddocks situated on the gentle slope of a hill and a private woodland below. One of the paddocks can be accessed from the road. There are two stables off the driveway too. In total the property has just under five acres of land.

A five-bar gate opens into the property's driveway, which offers ample parking and has a good-sized garage with power and light.
Attached to the house, but accessed from the outside, is a useful self-contained, two-storey storage space/workshop.
