Location - Nuthampstead

Nuthampstead is a picturesque English parish village situated 6 miles south of the town of Royston and 18 miles from the city of Cambridge. Historically a hamlet in the parish of Barkway, Nuthampstead is renowned for its small size and beautiful countryside surroundings, with glorious walks and excellent opportunities to get back to nature.

Despite its size, Nuthampstead is steeped in history with RAF Nuthamstead being situated next to the village during WW2, home initially to the 55th Fighter Group and 398th Bombardment Group of the US Army Air Forces. Visitors to the site will find that the main runways have since been removed, with a grass runway and service roads only remaining to allow the airfield to be used by light aircraft. Areas of the former airfield have now been converted into a shooting ground, and since 1992, when planning permission was granted, the ground has developed to enable it to hold major championships in four international shooting disciplines. The village also benefits from a very popular pub/restaurant with bed and breakfast facilities, called The Woodman. Outside The Woodman is a large memorial stone dedicated to the 398th squadron.

Nuthampstead’s proximity to Royston and surrounding villages means that residents have access to many other amenities, such as the Royston mainline train station offering regular fast services to both Cambridge and London Kings Cross. There is also a leisure centre, sports clubs, dentist’s surgeries, and highly-regarded schools for all ages. The A1M and M11 are within a 15-minute drive via the A10/A505, and London Stansted and Luton Airports are both 30-minutes away.

We encourage you to visit Nuthampstead to see for yourself the wonderful features this picturesque village has to offer.
