Description

Brue Farm House is a genuine 'must see' property. Homes of this nature are rare to the market, and this one offers very generous accommodation as well as a range of stone barns and outbuildings - ripe for development.

Believed to date back to the early 1780s and once a coaching inn Brue Farmhouse is now a much-loved family home conveniently situated on the edge of the village of Lovington and just 3 miles from Castle Carys mainline station (Paddington 1hr 49m).

The main entrance hall is wide and welcoming. There is a large storage cupboard and the door leading down to a spacious cellar. Walking through the hall there is the entrance to what is now a dining room on the left-hand side and opposite is this the downstairs cloakroom. A door leads through to the inner hall.

The inner hall leads past the staircase to a most useful boot room with a door to the courtyard beyond. The inner hall also leads off to the other parts of the house including the kitchen and office. The office and dining rooms are believed to have been the original bar areas of the coaching inn.

The kitchen is the heart of the home - fitted with a range of modern units, a central island, and a striking large Aga that adds warmth and character. There is a spacious walk-in pantry too. The windows and door overlook the charming gardens. Space for a dining table is at one end, making this a great space for entertaining.

The sitting room is most impressive with a vaulted ceiling and a Jetmaster fireplace. French doors open on to the patio and gardens.

Upstairs there is a galleried landing with large feature window which provides space to sit and read and to soak in the atmosphere of the property. On this floor there are four ample bedrooms - two ensuite and a family bathroom. To the rear is the laundry room.

Upstairs to the second floor you will find two further bedrooms and a shower room perfect for overnight guests.

Outside there are beautifully designed gardens which are completely private and not overlooked. There is a large lawned area with mature borders and a large garden to the side with fruit trees. A Wisteria adorns one side of the property.

A feature of the property is the large level courtyard surrounded by several stone barns and outbuildings from the original coaching inn.

Lovington is a small village a short drive from Castle Cary and Bruton with all both towns have to offer, including Hauser Wirth, The Newt in Somerset and the many eateries in Bruton high street! Kingfisher Equestrian riding stables and livery yard is round the corner from the property. The village also boasts a nursery, primary school, church, the Lovington bakery with café and some wonderful countryside walks.

All in all, a superb family home with a wealth of charm and character in the heart of Somerset.

About Hunter French, Bruton

9 High Street, Bruton, BA10 0AB

Hunter French Estate Agents were formed in 2005 by Stephen Hunter and Karen Dumine both of whom had been working in corporate Estate Agency since 1996 and 1988 respectively.

They decided to join forces and opened an Estate Agency that actually focused on selling property rather than mortgages, overseas homes and insurances! The first office was opened on the busy London Road in Bath - covering Larkhall and the villages beyond.

In 2007 their second branch was opened in Corsham, followed by Devizes, Frome and Tetbury. In 2019 Karen Dumine headed up the new office in Bruton which has gone from strength, covering Bruton, Wincanton, Castle Cary and the surrounding villages. 2024 welcomed another new branch opening in Wotton - Under - Edge in Gloucestershire.

Karen has a wealth of incredible knowledge in the property industry. She has not only helped hundreds of people move in her career but has also been involved in property renovation, holiday lets, short term rentals - she has even written about property and been published in newspapers and magazines.

She is joined in the Bruton Office by Joolz Matthews and Joshua Manuel. Independent financial services are provided by Jeremy Blair and Jo Betts
