O Valadouro (Lugo)

The lands of O Valadouro are located in one of the northern valleys of the province of Lugo, specifically within the A Mariña region. It comprises the following parishes: Budián, O Cadramón, Ferreira, Frexulfe, A Laxe, Moucide, Recaré, San Tomé de Recaré, Santa Cruz do Valadouro, and Vilacampa.

Valadouro, or Valley of Gold, covers an area of approximately 110.10 square kilometers and has a population of about 2,004 inhabitants.

Its lands are irrigated by the Oro (Ouro) River as it flows towards the Cantabrian Sea. The Oro (Ouro) River is reputed to have once contained significant quantities of this precious mineral. It originates in the Buio and Cadramón mountain ranges, in the Xistral region. The Xistral mountains are the northernmost in Galicia, with peaks exceeding 1000m and wild landscapes of singular beauty.
