ELICE - PESCARA PROVINCE

Elice is a small Medieval village which rises on top of a hill between the delightful, historic towns of Penne and Atri. It is surrounded by rolling countryside, dotted with olive trees, and is located at the beginning of the Majella National Park. The population is 1,712 and the village is found at 259 metres above sea level.

The ancient centre originally developed around the large castle of Castiglioni and church of San Martino, which are connected by a vaulted passage. It was also home to a renowned tannery and a factory, producing terracotta and pottery. The best way to explore and admire the historic heart is on foot.

The area has a few bars, shops and restaurants with more facilities found in nearby, local towns.

Each year there are several festivals which celebrate ancient traditions and local foods. There is the opportunity to enjoy craft markets, tastings, music shows, games, flag wavers and locals dressed in Medieval attire.

The economy remains predominantly agricultural with excellent production of olive oil and Montepulciano d-Abruzzo red wine.
