Description

Constructed between 1866 and 1868 using the finest materials, Beach Lawn reflects the architectural ambition of the influential families connected with the shipping industry and Liverpool docks.

The impressive front elevation features a sweeping driveway leading to a beautiful sun terrace with a glazed veranda and decorative cast-iron pilasters, providing a wonderful space to enjoy the coastal outlook.

The property is entered via a charming vestibule which opens into a magnificent reception hall with an elegant return staircase rising through the house via attractive half landings. Several generously proportioned reception rooms, enhanced by decorative cornicing and period features, provide superb living and entertaining space. The ground floor also benefits from a shower room, re-equipped breakfast kitchen, and utility room. The lower ground floor offers an extensive games room together with several hobby and ancillary rooms.

Across the upper floors the property provides seven impressive bedrooms served by well-appointed bathrooms, shower rooms, and en-suite facilities. Large windows allow excellent natural light while offering far-reaching views across Crosby Beach, the Mersey Estuary, the Wirral Peninsula and, on clear days, the Welsh mountains including Snowdonia.

The property retains a wealth of period craftsmanship including fine fireplaces, detailed joinery, decorative cornicing, and ornate frieze work.

Externally there is ample parking together with secure and attractive gardens.

The front elevations are finished in scribed render with decorative relief bands and ornate window casings, while the roof is clad in traditional Welsh slate.

The Location

Situated in this vibrant and established location, the property is conveniently located for access to a wide variety of amenities including schooling at Merchant Taylors and excellent local state provision.

A fine selection of shopping facilities, wine bars, restaurants and bistros can be found at Crosby Village in addition to recreation ground available at Crosby Marina, Beach lawn Gardens "Another Place" by Antony Gormley located on Crosby Beach is within walking distance. Sports and leisure activities are also available locally and the area is served by strong public transport services via both road and rail.

The History

Beach Lawn was built between 1866 and 1868 mainly for the rich and powerful families making their fortunes from Liverpool docks. First owners were typically ship owners, shipping agents, insurance brokers and traders. The houses would have had stables and staff accommodation.

14 Beach Lawn was originally owned by Thomas Brandreth who was a paint manufacturer. In the 1860's the old timber schooners and clippers were being broken up (all the houses have ship timbers in their roofs) and new steamers were being built which Brandreth was busy painting.
