Situated in a beautiful Pyrénéan valley, Lurbe-Saint-Christau is a small, very peaceful hamlet, surrounded by woods, nature and mountains.  The river that runs through the village has some great swim spots, including a lovely pool just below the little waterfall.  It feels a million miles from the hectic outside world, yet it's just 7km from a big supermarket and 10km from Oloron-Sainte-Marie where there is a train station and a good collection of independent restaurants, cafés and basic shops.

Close to the Col de Marie-Blanque and the Camino de Santiago, this is fantastic hiking and mountain biking country.  Ski slopes are around 30 mins away and Biarritz on the Atlantic coast is 90 mins away.   Airports at Pau, Biarritz and Tarbes are all about 90mins from the cottage.
