Description

Located in the heart of the North Laine, next to the popular The Foundry pub, this charming Victorian terraced house is arranged over three floors and offers stylish, flexible living with a private patio garden, all just a short walk from Brighton Station and the seafront.

Built around 1840, the house has real character from the moment you see it, with its distinctive pink painted façade and orange front door. Inside, the house blends period charm with modern décor, creating a home that feels both characterful and easy to live in.

You enter on the ground floor into a bright and comfortable living room, where polished wooden flooring, soft colours and period proportions create a calm and inviting space to relax at the end of the day. There is also flexibility here to create a home working space, playroom or snug if required.

Upstairs on the first floor are two double bedrooms. The principal bedroom sits at the front of the house and is full of character with a roll top bath and pink patterend wallpaper, while the second bedroom is currently arranged as a dressing room but works equally well as a double bedroom. This floor also includes a separate WC.

The lower ground floor forms the kitchen and dining space, which opens directly onto the private patio garden. This level works particularly well for everyday living and entertaining, with space for a dining table and a well-fitted shaker-style kitchen with plenty of storage and worktop space. Double doors open onto the easily maintained patio garden, making it a lovely space in the warmer months for outdoor dining or relaxing after a day at the beach. A second modern shower room is also located on this floor.

Altogether, this is a house that offers something quite rare in central Brighton – a freehold period home with outdoor space, character and a location right in the heart of the city.

The area

Foundry Street takes its name from the Regent Iron Foundry, which once stood at the end of the street on North Road and was Brighton’s largest employer during the nineteenth century. The houses along the street were originally built for foundry workers, and today the street forms part of the historic North Laine, one of the city’s most characterful and sought-after neighbourhoods.

The North Laine is known for its independent cafés, boutique shops, restaurants and pubs, giving the area a unique village-like feel right in the centre of Brighton. There’s a strong sense of community here, with plenty going on throughout the year, including local events and summer street parties.

Brighton’s famous seafront is just half a mile away, making the beach, promenade and pier an easy walk from the house.

Transport links

Brighton mainline station is just a few minutes’ walk away, with direct trains to London, Gatwick and along the south coast. Numerous bus routes run through the city centre, making it easy to travel across Brighton & Hove without a car.

For drivers, the A27 and A23 are easily accessible, providing road links towards London and across Sussex

Schools

The property is well located for a number of highly regarded schools, including Brighton Girls, St Mary Magdalen Catholic Primary School, St Paul’s C of E School, Cardinal Newman Catholic School and BHASVIC College.
