DART BANK, BURRIDGE ROAD, CHELSTON
An Elegant Victorian Villa occupying a generous corner plot location with views to the Bay nearby.

INTRODUCTION
Dart Bank is a distinguished detached Victorian Villa, ideally positioned on the edge of Chelston, offering breath taking views towards Torquay Harbour. This elegant residence has been lovingly maintained by the same owners for over 30 years, undergoing sympathetic renovations that have enhanced its period charm while providing modern, well-appointed accommodation. The property offers bright and spacious living across three floors. While generous in size, Dart Bank remains a manageable and comfortable family home. The main living spaces are arranged across the ground and first floors, with the upper level boasting spectacular views over Torquay. The versatile lower ground floor currently serves as a leisure space, complete with a pool table, table tennis, gym, sauna, and jacuzzi. However, this level offers excellent potential for multi-generational living or a self-contained apartment to generate additional income.

Externally, the villa benefits from two gated entrances, one from Burridge Road and another from Ruckamore Road, where a detached double garage is located. A beautifully elevated terrace provides a stunning vantage point over the main garden, which is both private and level, predominantly laid to lawn and framed by mature hedging. Dart Bank offers an exceptional balance of indoor and outdoor living, perfect for those seeking an elegant home with privacy, space and captivating views in a sought after location.

OWNER'S INSIGHT
When we first discovered Dart Bank over three decades ago, it was a neglected and weary building in need of care. For 20 years prior, it had been run as a hotel and had fallen into disrepair. Crumbling render, a muddy driveway, and a tired interior masked the true beauty of this once grand home. Through years of dedicated restoration, we lovingly brought the house back to life, returning it to its former splendour. Every inch of Dart Bank now tells the story of a labour of love, transforming it into the warm and inviting home our family cherishes. This house has been the backdrop to countless memories, from raising our children to welcoming friends and family. It has also been home to notable past residents, including a respected Alderman and a passionate suffragette. Over its 120-year history, Dart Bank has only had five owners, each leaving their mark on its legacy. Now, it is time for a new chapter, and while we say goodbye with fondness, we do so with the hope that its next custodian will cherish it as much as we have.

STEP INSIDE
Dart Bank is an exceptional home, blending classic Victorian character with modern day comfort. The exterior showcases timeless architecture, which is echoed inside with beautifully presented living spaces. The Villa’s main entrance opens into an impressive conservatory, a bright and welcoming space with stylish tiled flooring that doubles as a reception area. From here, a spacious hallway leads to the main living areas and provides access to the upper and lower floors. The layout offers excellent flexibility, with two principal reception rooms, a bay-fronted living room enjoying garden views and a formal dining room, currently used as a study. The generous kitchen and breakfast room is bathed in natural light, making the most of the picturesque surroundings. A half landing leads to a guest bedroom or additional reception room, as well as a utility room, cloakroom, and secondary access point.

The lower ground floor offers a wealth of possibilities. Presently used for leisure, it features a pool table room, gym, sauna, and jacuzzi. With its own entrance, along with shower and toilet facilities, this level could easily be converted into a self-contained annexe, ideal for extended family or as a potential rental opportunity. Upstairs, a bright and airy landing leads to five well proportioned bedrooms. The two principal bedrooms are particularly spacious, boasting large bay windows that frame breath taking views across Torquay. The master bedroom benefits from a modern en-suite shower room, while a separate family bathroom and additional toilet serve the remaining bedrooms.

STEP OUTSIDE
Occupying a generous 0.33-acre plot, Dart Bank offers extensive off road parking via two gated entrances, along with a detached double garage. The beautifully landscaped gardens provide a peaceful retreat, with mature hedging ensuring a high level of privacy. A stunning elevated sun terrace overlooks the main garden, which is level and predominantly laid to lawn, ideal for families. The well established grounds feature a variety of mature trees, palms, and colourful shrubs, creating a tranquil and inviting setting.

LOCATION
Burridge Road is a highly sought-after address in Chelston, Torquay. Dart Bank benefits from easy access to local amenities, including Chelston’s shops, Torquay town centre, the harbour, and the prestigious Royal Torbay Yacht Club. The surrounding area offers an abundance of coastal walks, sandy beaches, and scenic green spaces, including Torre Abbey Meadows and Cockington Country Park. Torquay railway station is within walking distance, providing connections to the main Paddington to Penzance line at Newton Abbot, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to London.
