Description

Family home in highly desirable Oxfordshire village with lovely gardens and myriad opportunities to update.

Description

A well-loved, family home for nearly 120 years. St Catherine’s now presents its next custodian with an exciting opportunity to update and breathe new life into it, ready for its next chapter. Originally a small cottage thought to date to the late 1800’s, the house has been considerably extended over the years. It now provides extensive accommodation that would benefit from reconfiguring to suit 21st century family living.

To the ground floor is a good sized drawing room and sitting room, both with open fires, a dining room and a kitchen/breakfast room with pantry and larder.

A stunning cut string staircase in the heart of the house, sweeps around, with its mahogany handrail, to a galleried landing. The six bedrooms and two bathrooms to the first floor and large vaulted attic provide numerous opportunities to create en suite bedroom accommodation.

Outside
Generous, well-loved and very private gardens wrap around three sides of the house. Mature trees and flower beds, frothing with spring bulbs feature with lovely herringbone brick terraces to the front and back. There is a large wooden garden shed and a greenhouse.

Location

East Hendred sits on the edge of the ancient Ridgeway, within a conservation area, and is home to the stunning Hendred Estate. There are myriad footpaths and bridleways to explore and enjoy. The village has easy and swift access to road, rail and airport links via the A34, just three miles away.

The market town of Wantage provides well for everyday shopping requirements with Oxford offering many and diverse cultural activities. There is a farm shop just two miles away.

This vibrant village boasts two popular public houses, Church of England and Catholic churches, post office and shop, two primary schools and a pre-school.

There are a wide choice of highly regarded independent and state schools in the area.
