Description
The street is a tree-lined no-through road with old-fashioned street lamps: a quaint and quiet location to set your hat.
There is just one flat below yours and you share a main front door and entrance hall. Your own front door is straight ahead. Take your stairs here and from the half-landing area your sash-windowed bathroom is on your left. This has modern white sanitaryware and an over-bath shower.
Next door is your first bedroom, of over 14 feet by over 9 feet. Both bedrooms have pale carpets underfoot.
Up a few stairs and your second bedroom rests to your right. It is over 11 feet each way, with built-in closets to both alcoves.
Then across the front of the building is your big, bright, southeasterly-facing open-plan reception/kitchen. Custom-made shutters grace the lower sash panes for privacy and light control. Modern white units are plentiful and are paired with wooden worktops. Integrated appliances are included in the sale.
At the end of the road, cross for Brookmill Park –a five acre linear park running alongside the tidal River Ravensbourne (which becomes a tributary to the Thames less than a mile away). The park sustains an exceptionally rich and impressive variety of birdlife with kingfishers, herons, egrets, moorhens, coots, mallard, wagtails, goldfinches, long-tailed tits, migratory visitors and more. The park is also home to around 8 pairs of pipistrelle bats and is currently being managed to enhance green corridors. Two nature reserves adjoin the park.
Handily, you are just a four minute from St John’s Station (Zone 2), and a six minute walk from Elverson Road DLR Station. New Cross and Brockley stations are also within easy walking distance, and loads of buses run from nearby Lewisham Way and Brookmill Road. Cycling to the City is easy on dedicated routes, too.
A little bit of a secret this area, but not for long! An extremely well-connected patch. The stuff of driving lessons: Victorian streets in the main with excellent transport links, shops, cafes and parks (Hilly Fields and Ladywell Fields are well worth a wander). In St John’s you have Deptford directly to the north, Brockley to the south, Lewisham/Greenwich to the east, and New Cross/Peckham to the west.
In your hyper-local area, some of the best spots are Middleton deli/cafe, The Talbot and Brookmill pubs and Brockley Market each Saturday.
Lewisham is your nearest town centre (walk 10-15 minutes) with a strong leisure centre with pool, gym and classes, a decent shopping centre (M&S, Boots etc.), daily market stalls, a large regeneration plan in place to further improve the town centre’s offering, and of course the planned Bakerloo line extension.
You are about a mile from The Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site which comprises the historic town centre, the beautiful Royal Park and the related institutional buildings. The Royal Observatory is a must-go-to and the views from up here at the top of the park are really something.
