Description

This bright four-bedroom terraced house in Deal has been the subject of an extensive and beautifully executed renovation. At the rear, a contemporary kitchen opens out to a garden, with room to grow and to host. Well placed towards the centre of the picturesque town, the house is close to Deal’s striking beach and thriving independent dining scene.

The Tour

Blenheim Street is a residential street that runs parallel to Victoria Park. This house sits roughly halfway down and presents a traditional façade to the street, with tripartite bay windows on the first and second floors. A wrought-iron gate opens to the front garden, where the front door provides access to the entrance hall.

There is a sitting room at the front, with reinstated panelling, a large bay window and the same oak floorboards that run throughout. From the back of the entrance hall is a dining room, with a period wrought-iron fireplace and an internal Crittall-style door leading onto a tranquil gravel courtyard.

Next door is the open-plan kitchen, which has smart white cabinets, quartz countertops and a range-style cooker. Steps descend to an additional sitting space, with large black-framed doors that open to the garden beyond. There is a handy storage cupboard here, and a deep roof light above.

There are two bedrooms on the first floor, including an expansive principal room. Another bay window here draws in plenty of brightness, and there is a period fireplace with original tiles. Next door is the primary bathroom, a serene, spa-like space with a large freestanding bathtub, a cylindrical sink and taps from Lusso, pearlescent zellige tiles, and generous storage. A separate shower room with Japanese finger tiles lies at the other end of the floor.

Two more bedrooms lie on the top floor, embraced by gently sloping ceilings and with far-reaching views.

Outdoor Space

A thoughtfully landscaped garden lies at the rear. It has two terraces, one at the front and one at the rear, with plenty of space for outdoor dining. An acer has been centrally planted, with plenty more room for potted plants.

The Area

Deal is a perennially popular coastal town known as one of the most attractive in Kent. Its stretch of coastline, which appears at the end of Dolphin Street, is sublime, with a striking concrete-and-steel mid-century pier and a popular, architect-designed café at its end.

Popular dining spots include The Rose hotel, known for its excellent bar and food, and its sister restaurant, The Blue Pelican. Merchant of Relish, The Black Pig and Jenkins and Sons are the go-to for groceries, meat and fish, respectively. For more local produce, there is also a fantastic Saturday farmers’ market. As far as homeware shops are concerned, Dunlin and Diver, Will and Yates, and Mileage are among some of the finest; there are also several well-known art galleries.

Trains run from Deal station to London St Pancras in under 90 minutes. Services also connect to Kent’s other popular seaside towns, including Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. The A2 is also easily reached by car travel into the capital, with ferries at Dover only 15 minutes away, and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone just 25 minutes away.
