Description

A beautifully presented period cottage set in delightful gardens of almost half an acre.

Description

A most appealing period cottage having mainly rendered elevations above a brick plinth, under a tiled roof much of which was re-tiled in 2025. The cottage is understood to date from the 17th Century with later additions and has been the subject of considerable refurbishment and improvement by the current owners over the last 8 years. These have included the building of an impressive oak framed orangery leading off the kitchen, the replacement of both bathrooms, and complete redecoration. This attractively presented home has the benefit of oil fired central heating, UPVC double glazed windows and PV solar panels which provide the current owners with a feed in income in addition to supplying electricity. It offers spacious accommodation with good room sizes, many rooms featuring double or triple aspect windows with lovely views over the gardens and countryside beyond.

The entrance porch and front door open into the entrance hall, with tiled floor. The utility room has a range of units, a sink, plumbing for a washing machine, and a cupboard housing the boiler, with a guest cloakroom leading off. The generous sitting room has triple aspect windows with a door to the rear garden, and a feature fireplace with double sided log burner. This links to the neighbouring dining room, currently arranged as a cosy snug, and there is also a useful study with understairs cupboard. The good size kitchen/ breakfast room is fitted with an extensive range of painted wood units, with granite surfaces, including a dishwasher and Neff oven, a four oven oil fired Aga set into a brick recess with beam over, and a pantry. Leading off is a fine oak framed orangery with full height glazing on three sides, double doors to the garden, and a roof lantern with opening vents.

The staircase leads up to the first floor landing. The spacious main suite has a dressing room with a range of built in wardrobes, a luxurious bathroom with freestanding bath, twin basins set into a washstand, glazed shower and WC. There are three further double bedrooms, plus the attractively refitted family bathroom which has a long freestanding bath, separate glazed double shower, basin and WC.

Outside
A five bar gate opens into the paviour driveway which provides an extensive parking area for 6 or 7 cars, and leads to the detached double garage, with electric roller shutter door. The house is set in most attractive gardens of almost half an acre, which extend down to a neighbour’s paddocks at the rear. They are mainly lawned with a wide variety of specimen shrubs and trees. Within the garden are many separate terraces perfect for outdoor entertaining, and areas from which to sit and enjoy views over the surrounding countryside, including a summerhouse with log burner and cloakroom. To the side of the house is a productive walled kitchen garden with greenhouse, potting shed and raised beds. There is also a spa pool with swim jet and hot tub.
