Seller Insight
When did you first find this home, what first drew you to it, and what was it that instantly captured your heart?
“We had lived on the island for 20 years and, after retirement, viewed some 20 houses in early 2017. No 3 came on the market and jumped out in terms of build quality, spaciousness and superb location plus a true “lock up and leave” allowing us to travel easily.”
Can you recall the moment you knew it was “the one”?
“On opening the front door and looking through the high ceiling hallway through to the kitchen and terrace.”
Following those first impressions, how has your connection deepened over time, things like the architecture, the setting, the atmosphere and experiences all play a part?
“We spent two years decorating and sourcing furniture from the UK and Europe to create our unique spaces. The size of the rooms allowed us plenty of scope for larger furniture. The house is surprisingly quiet for a city centre location.”
How would you describe the feeling of arriving home, whether at the end of a busy day, after a weekend trip or simply just a few hours away?
“Relief and comfort. The house just hugs us, warm throughout and a sense of peace.”
Tell us a little about the home’s history. Have you made any changes or additions that you feel have enhanced its character or functionality?
“The house is a new build completed at the end of 2015 by Hartford homes and is super insulated. The front looks like a traditional Georgian house but behind the facade is a modern and high tech interior.
Fitting shutters to the front and electric blinds to the rear improved the passive heating and cooling.
The whole of the interior has been redesigned and redecorated from the original.”
Is there a particular feature or detail that holds special meaning for you?
“The views across the sea.”
Which spaces do you find yourself gravitating to most, and why?
“We use all the spaces at different times and the variety is what makes the house special.”
How does your home make day to day living feel special? Whether it’s morning light in the kitchen, cosy evenings by the fire, or garden views that never get old?
“Sunrise and the morning sun in the kitchen…”
What time of year does the property feel most magical, and why?
“Seeing the changing seasons and Spring through Autumn living on the terraces and being cosy through winter and storms.”
For families, what do you feel makes this such a wonderful place to raise children?
“Proximity to the parks, beach and town. The space to spread out.”
How would you describe the local community and the lifestyle on offer?
“Like minded residents around derby square which has seen some significant investment over the last 15 years and become the most desirable location in central Douglas. All shops, restaurants, theatre, cinema and beach are within 5-15 minutes walking distance.”
Are there favourite local spots, cafés, pubs, restaurants, walks, hidden gems etc that really capture the spirit of living here?
“The local Woodbourne deli and coffee shop five minutes walk away is a great stop for a nice coffee and local produce. Lots of restaurant choices no more than 10 minutes away. Wine Down in town and the Food Cellar/Wine Cellar are regular go too’s.”
Can you share a remarkable or meaningful moment that truly sums up your time in this home?
“Our first Grandchild coming to stay with us for three months.”
What kinds of memories have been created here? Celebrations, milestones, or quiet moments that you’ll always cherish?
“Family Christmas, Birthday celebrations and family gatherings are always special here.”
What do you think the next owners will fall in love with most?
“The space, peace and serenity.”
Who do you imagine would feel most at home here?
“The house would suit anybody from a young couple working from home to a growing family or retired couple who travel like us.”
As you prepare to move on, what will you miss most and what will you take with you in your memories?
“The Kitchen, Library, Gym and drying room! As well as how easy the house is to look after. Memories of the gatherings here and how much fun its been living here.”
