Description

THE HOTEL

Norton House is positioned in a residential area in The Mumbles, 100 metres from the Swansea Bay seafront. The Georgian mansion was built in 1790 as a private residence, and benefits from many of its original features, including high ceilings, large sash windows, statement staircase and portico entrance.

Surrounding the hotel are private gardens which are accessed from the elegant function room and restaurant.

Our client acquired the hotel in 2016 and has significantly invested in the property, completely refurbishing it.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is provided across 17 en suite bedrooms and four self-contained two-bedroom apartments. The bedrooms have a tasteful balance between traditional and modern, with original features displayed alongside modern lighting and bathrooms.

The apartments comprise living room area, fully fitted kitchen and ample parking. These were developed in 2010 by the previous owner.

FUNCTION AND EVENTS

The hotel offers well-appointed event facilities and can seat up to 90 guests across the function room.

The restaurant and function room can be opened up to cater for 140 guests.

The hotel is licensed to accommodate 80 guests for ceremonies. In addition, the hotel is licensed to hold civil weddings, civil partnerships and a renewal of vow ceremonies.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

The restaurant has been awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence, and is open to both guests and nonresident diners for lunch and dinner. The restaurant has modern furnishings and provides seating for 48 covers.

The terrace is accessible from both the restaurant and function room, and has seating for 40.

Norton House benefits form a central location in Mumbles, the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first National Landscape. The peninsula is a rich and varied environment, with wild open moors, dramatic limestone cliffs, and golden sandy beaches, making the area a favourite among surfers and walkers. The area is rich in history with medieval castles, iron age forts, 19th Century parks and over 1,200 archaeological sites.

The university city of Swansea is four miles northeast, and with a population of over 241,000, is the second largest city in Wales. The university has over twenty thousand students, of which a quarter are international. Major employers in the area include Admiral Group and Ford Motor Company. In 2023, 4.7 million people visited the Swansea, The Mumbles and Gower area, generating £609 million to the economy (Swansea Council 2023).

Gower is also well positioned for the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast.
