Description

Accrington Market, built in 1868 by John F. Doyle, sits proudly at the heart of Accrington Town Centre. This prominent Grade II listed building is undergoing an exciting transformation supported by UK Government funding. Once complete, the market will once again be a vibrant destination for visitors to eat, drink and shop.

Behind the hoardings a full restoration ensures that this heritage gem is protected for generations to come. Internally, the works are focusing on creating a revitalised fit-for-purpose market, carefully designed to honour the character of the building and offer a range of spaces suitable for modern habits.

We are now seeking new traders to complement the offerings of the existing market traders. Curating a diverse mix of stalls selling everything from fresh produce to handmade goods as well as food & drink is essential to creating a dynamic market venue at the heart of Accrington.

THE WIDER TOWN

There are many exciting projects ongoing in Accrington which are elevating the town centre, including the Burtons Chambers transformation and works to Market Chambers.

Burtons Chambers: located opposite Accrington Town Hall and the Market Hall, this building is currently undergoing vital restoration works to create a modern co-working space for local individuals and businesses. This will create additional footfall for the Market and will open at the same time.

Market Chambers: this building has recently been acquired by the Council and is in the development phase of a National Lottery Heritage Funded project to become a new cultural anchor for the town centre. Accrington DOME will be a heritage hub connecting and showcasing existing stories, organisations and places across the borough.

Accrington Town Hall: another stunning Grade II listed building, this venue offers space for civic and celebratory events, such as weddings. This returns to Council management in 2027 and will be managed in such a way as to complement Accrington Market and the wider town centre economy.
