Hemisphere One: Liverpool's Landmark Net-Zero Innovation Hub
Hemisphere One will be the first building within the ambitious Hemisphere development in Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter, located in Paddington Village and developed by Sciontec-a partnership between Liverpool City Council, the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, and Bruntwood SciTech. Designed as a next-generation workspace for the city's fast-growing innovation and life sciences sectors, Hemisphere One will set new standards in sustainability, flexibility, and research-ready infrastructure.
Key Features include -
Size and Scope
Hemisphere One provides approximately 117,000 sq ft of high-quality workspace across eight floors, featuring large, flexible floorplates suited to a range of laboratory and office configurations. As the first phase of the Hemisphere development, it forms the foundation of a combined innovation campus footprint exceeding 217,000 sq ft once Hemisphere Two is completed.
Laboratory Facilities
Purpose-built to support advanced scientific and technology-driven organisations, Hemisphere One will accommodate specialist bio, chemistry, and digital/data laboratories, with options for incubator, grow-on, and commercial lab space. The building's high-spec design incorporates write-up areas, collaboration zones, and adaptable lab layouts capable of supporting automation and cutting-edge research workflows.
Sustainable Design
Hemisphere One is set to become one of the UK's first new-build workspaces designed to achieve operational net-zero carbon, alongside leading global sustainability credentials including BREEAM Excellent, WELL Platinum, WiredScore, EPC A, and an anticipated NABERS 5.5* rating. Biophilic features such as planted internal glasshouses, maximised natural light, and enhanced ventilation create a healthier, greener environment for building users.
Amenities and Accessibility
Created with wellbeing and inclusivity at its core, Hemisphere One will offer a wellness studio, landscaped outdoor spaces, a café and collaboration lounge, shower and changing facilities, and secure cycle storage with e-bike charging-supporting active travel and sustainable commuting. Generous communal areas and event spaces encourage interaction, networking, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Innovation Ecosystem Integration
As a major asset within the Liverpool City Region Innovation Zone, Hemisphere One will strengthen the city's position as a leading hub for science, research, and technology. The building will support start-ups, scale-ups, and global research organisations-including key regional innovation programmes-helping to accelerate growth in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, digital health, and advanced technologies.
Hemisphere One will be located at the heart of Paddington Village in Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter, one of the UK's fastest-growing innovation districts. Positioned just steps from The Spine and neighbouring the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, the Royal Liverpool Hospital, and major research institutes, it sits within a vibrant ecosystem of education, healthcare, and scientific excellence. The area benefits from excellent public transport links, including close proximity to Liverpool Lime Street Station, multiple bus routes, and active travel connections, while being surrounded by hotels, public realm improvements, and amenities that support a thriving, future-focused community. As part of the wider £1bn Knowledge Quarter redevelopment, Hemisphere One enjoys a prime location designed to attract world-class talent, research organisations, and innovative companies to Liverpool.
