Orkney is famous for it's incredible native wildlife with the islands calling themselves home to many internationally important populations of wildlife including puffins, otters, white tailed eagles, dolphins, sea-lions and seals. Orkney is one of the best places in the UK to see whales with Humpbacks, Sperm whales, Minke, Pilot Whales and Orcas regularly spotted
in the waters around the isles.
Located 10 miles north of mainland Scotland, Orkney is an archipelago of 70 islands, 20 of which are inhabited. Like many islands, Orkney does not have mammals such as foxes, badgers, weasels and, until recently, stoats. This has allowed many species of ground-nesting birds and the Orkney vole, a distinct sub-species found nowhere else in the world, to thrive.
Site has been measured by GPS and is marked out on the ground for ease of identification.
