Nearby Launceston, known as the Gateway to Cornwall and once the ancient capital of the county, is an attractive town famed for its castle and its array of independent shops, delis, cafes and restaurants along with good schools, doctors and banks it caters amply for day to day needs. The area is well served with communications links with easy access to the A30 providing links to the M5 at Exeter, as well as southbound towards Bodmin and Truro. A mainline railway station can be found at Exeter, with daily, direct trains to London (just over 2 hours. International airports can be found at Newquay, Exeter and Bristol.
